CAS-ual Fridays, Young Crafter's Unite and Simon Says Stamp

I got rid of most of my stickers in The Big Purge of 2010 but have a few cuties that I couldn't part with... Perfect for participation with this week's CAS-ual Friday sticker challenge.

I decided to put my stickers to work with one of my new Paper Smooches stamp sets, Word Up, to make a colorful Hello! that also works for the new Young Crafters Unite challenge. (It's young at heart, right? I guess 32 isn't that old! ;P )

I also want to submit this for Simon Says Stamp Anything Goes challenge. They're having a fabulous blog hop right now!

The bubble sentiments are so fun to color! I can also see super cute paper-piecing!

The sparkle on this card is much more apparent IRL. I added Stardust gel pen around the letters to coordinate with the glittery stickers!

Now For My Only Grandson's Birthday

I have 6 grandchildren and only one of them is a boy! He's turning 6! How the time flies, and how much I miss being close to him since I've left Calgary. Here is the card that I created for him.

I have to confess that at the time I created this card I hadn't yet unpacked all of my craft supplies, which limited a little what I could make for him. I used liquid gold pearls around the border and for the eyes of the dragon flies that I punched out. I then used a gold gel pen to draw some details on both sides so that when the wings are bent up a bit you can see the details on the underside as well. I realize that the bear button is a little out of place, but it was the only button that was the colour I wanted.

I tried something different with the string. I wondered if it would curl if I wrapped it around the end of a paintbrush. was I surprised when it actually worked!

Paper Smooches SPARKS and Simon Says Stamp Challenges

I used the colors from the Paper Smooches SPARKS photo and the Simon Says Stamp sketch (see both photos below my card pic) to make this:

I was going to add this to the CASE Study challenge (Signature Style) but forgot that my midnight is not necessarily the same as other midnights...  ;)

I snagged the colors from the gorgeous PS photo: kraft, light blue, bright pink and white (which could also be cream, of course). I also loved the bling and used some rhinestones of my own.

I started out by die cutting and embossing the focal square and then leaving the die in place while I inked the edges with Spun Sugar Tim Holtz Distress Ink (difficult to tell with the lighting!). I stamped that darling ice cream cone and then paper-pieced it (heat embossed with clear powder on Kraft and Raspberry Fizz). The face was stamped with black ink and the cheeks done with my Versamark pen.

The sentiment piece was die cut with Mega Deckled Rectangles, stamped with black ink and heat embossed with clear powder.

The background was stamped with the little candy and triple-dot (sprinkles?) stamps after masking off the center strip. I had to hold myself back from adding the cute little face to the candies... I didn't want them to compete with the focal image. I then pierced the border lines.

The strip of light blue on the side was die cut with Papertrey Ink's Eyelet Lace border die. Rhinestones were added to the open circles.

Another Granddaughter's Birthday

This card is for my oldest granddaughter who is turning 9! I can't believe it!

I wanted to create something girly, airy with a little sophistication. The material that immediately came to mind was Velum. I had some blue and white velum flowers and scraps left over from a previous project a while back, and knew that was the medium I needed to accomplish my goal.

My only concern was how could I cover the dimensional tape I planned to use for the blue velum background, since it would show through a little. That's when pearls came to mind. However, I still haven't come across my pearls yet since the move; but, I did have liquid pearls!

So, I heat embossed the "birthday wishes" with silver embossing powder and then popped up the blue velum background, and applied the silver liquid pearls. I then used a blue sparkly Spica pen around the edges of the larger blue die cut flowers and then glued all the flowers on. Hopefully this will appeal to my young granddaughter that is growing up so fast. Happy birthday, Savanna!

4-Year-Old Birthday Party

Remember these invitations?

That party has finally come and gone. :D

As usual, I left everything until the night before and so it was a bit stressful! ;)

There were a couple of things I wanted to share from it, though.

I made these cute little "streamer wands," as I call them.

I had double these before the party but forgot to take a picture. These were the only ones I could salvage for a photo and they look a little used!  ;)  It was definitely a hit!

I had some dowling that I had purchased for a ribbon storage unit in mind but never got around to it. I chopped it into 8 pieces, sanded the chopped ends, put some 1/2" Scor-tape on the end, stuck on strips of crepe paper, added more Scor-tape and crepe paper, then added more Scor-tape and some ribbon (Papertrey Ink's Pure Poppy Swiss Dot).

Here are the goody bags that my 4-year-old helped me make:

It was quite a simple project, using kraft lunch bags and my Grand Big Scalloped Circles Spellbinders for the topper (I scored 2 parallel lines down the center to fold over the top of bag). My little gal did most of the ladybug stamping. Then she, my almost-6-year-old son and I did the coloring. The sentiment on the topper is Paper Smooches and fit the bill perfectly!! The pinwheels came in a package from the dollar store.

Paradise Player and a Scrapbook Page!?!

I haven't scrapbooked in EONS.

Not since I discovered stamping and cardmaking.

But when I received the sketch for this week's Playing in Paradise challenge (I won Paradise Player on this post), I knew I wanted to use it with a photo.

I dug out a picture of my niece and went to work creating an 8 x 10 to fit a frame.

Unfortunately, I started adhering things together before getting a good look at the whole picture.  It's not as perfect as I would like it to be but still cute!

Maybe I'll add a bit of journaling to the bottom.

CASE Study and Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger

It seems like such a beautiful day out and it makes me so happy!

That and I got some crafting time in... ;)

They're CASE-ing Iwona aka Chupa at CASE Study and I knew right away it would be difficult to find just one card amongst her prolific creations! She has such a variety of styles, too! I finally went with this card:

Only I used the colors from this week's GORGEOUS Tuesday Trigger photo at Moxie Fab World!

Here is what I came up with:

I had to keep the face of this card in the shade because it's difficult to see the really light pink dotted spot. I picked out the green and pink from the Moxie Fab inspiration photo, stamping it onto Soft Stone cardstock. The black card base has been impressed with the Canvas side of the Linen & Canvas impression plate though it's impossible to see here.

The sentiment was stamped onto vellum with Palette Noir ink. I colored the rhinestones to match the pink and green with Copic markers.

Waltzingmouse Sketch and CAS-ual Fridays: Embossing

This card started out as this project but was set aside as other ideas took over. I turned it into this week's Waltzingmouse Sketch. It's supposed to be a layout sketch rather than a card sketch, but I preferred it and so adapted it. Only one or 2 liberties have been taken!  ;)

It also works wonderfully well for this week's CAS-ual Friday challenge: embossing. I used heat embossing a couple of times on this. Such a fun challenge that I don't doubt I'll be back for more!

I am loving these Funky Town papers!  ;)

After die cutting a frame with Spellbinders Labels 2, I stitched the patterned paper to the pink cardstock. I heat embossed the lovely frame with clear and then heat embossed the sentiment with white.

I die cut and rolled the flowers with coordinating papers, making one a bit larger than the other. Added a few leaves.

I then added a couple of rhinestone swirls that I sorta regret. They're not terrible, they just don't add anything.

PTI MIM: Die-Cut Glitter Border, Moxie Fab World and Lily Pad Cards Felt Challenge

Three challenges in one card again...

This week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday reminded me why I RARELY work with glitter. Yes, it's pretty and yes, it's MESSY! Especially when you have to leave in the middle of working with it and a child helps things along... *sigh*

I'm also entering this into the Moxie Fab World and Lily Pad Cards felt challenges.

I wanted to use PTI's Funky Town paper and the Sending You dies and went from there. The felt flowers were die cut, carefully arranged and then placed on some Scor-tape adhesive sheet. If you have a 1-1/2" circle punch, I recommend punching out a perfect little circle to make your own Glubers but since I didn't have the right size, I just cut out around my finished flower. Added a bit of glue and glitter to the centers. A little sprinkling around the "petals" is alright, of course!

I was quite surprised to end up with a stamp-free card!

Timeless Tuesday #131 and Sketchbook Saturday #24

I love Chupa's sketches!

They're so eye-catching...

I've just never organized myself well enough to play with one.

Well, if I want to get any crafting time in right now, I have to be organized!

So I combined Chupa's Sketchbook Saturday challenge with the Timeless Tuesday challenge at Flourishes (pink, lace/ribbon, buttons).

The late-evening lighting took its toll on my photograph...  ;)

It's difficult to tell, but I sprayed some Rose Tea Glimmer Mist on the white card base. I added the stitched and circle patterned papers (more Kaisercraft Miss Nelly) and sewed on some lace.

The stamped panel took a bit more work.  ;)

I stamped the giant gift box in Frayed Burlap ink 3 times: once on the stitched white rectangle and once on each of the patterned papers. Then I took my detail scissors and went to work paper piecing!!

I love the effect! It looks like a gorgeous vintage box!

I had the thing all photographed and ready to go until I remembered the buttons...

Waltzingmouse Sketch and Paper Crafts August Gallery Challenges

I love this week's sketch at Waltzingmouse! I decided to incorporate it with this month's gallery challenge at Paper Crafts which is looking for girlfriend-themed projects.

I didn't realize that this was going to be a distressed card when I started it... That white card base is definitely incongruous!

So Good To Be Crafting Again!!! - Granddaughter's Birthday Card

I'm Back! Oh, it's wonderful to have my own place again and be able to craft. My only current problem is I still don't have a good camera. For the next little while, the photos will be coming from my cell phone. So I apologize in advance for the next few images of my postings.

I must say that my daughter did a great job keeping up the blog while I was on hiatus. I'm very proud of her latest achievement with the Waltzing Mouse challenge!!

Dana did such a lovely job on her invitations for her daughter's 4th birthday! I just love them! And at the same time that she was making her invitations, I was making a birthday card for my granddaughter. I knew that Dana was going to use a Ladybug theme, and when I found this embellishment trim in my stash I had to use it. It's a very simple card, but cute enough for a 4 year old girl to like. The triple Happy Birthday is stamped with red and embossed with clear.

It's certainly good to be back sharing this blog with Dana again. And, since there are a lot of birthdays in our family at this time of year, you'll be seeing a few more of them (using the cell camera unfortunately).

I traced around the edges of the triangles with a Copic multiliner and added a few Pebbles...

Wow, that title is a mouthful!!

This week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenge invites us to create our own custom ribbon with our Copic markers.

This week's Playing in Paradise challenge asks us to create something with brown, a pastel and a neutral.

The last Papertrey Princess challenge was a tribute to Gallery Idol Top 10 Laurie Willison.

The hardest part of these challenges was simply narrowing down which card of Laurie's to CASE!! My goodness, I must have dozens of her gorgeous creations throughout my Pinterest boards!

I finally went with the following card of Laurie's since it went well with the other 2 challenges:

Here is my take:

I used the same impression plate because I felt guilty that I have it but have never used it before. ;)

I used Copics E59, R02 and BG11 on the white grosgrain ribbon.

The glittery pebbles on either side of the sentiment are from my stash of blog team goodies from Scrapbooker's Paradise!
