Storage Tower...Jewlery Box...etc

- versatile and a good size for almost any use you can dream up

This "storage tower" as Kaisercraft calls it, has so many possible uses, with or without the drawers. And, after white washing the edges, then inking on top of that with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass, and using some of the papers from My Minds Eye Collectible lines, I ended up with a happy and cheerful unit.

The entire unit measures 13 1/2" high, by 7" by 7 1/4".

You can see in this photo what I came up with for the knobs. I used wood beads and heat embossed them with silver. Then I used embroidery floss to create six little tassels that I pulled through the bead and the hole punched in the front of the drawer using my Big Bite. I pulled tightly on the tassel till it would no longer come through the hole of the bead and glued it under the paper lining the inside of the drawer. There may be some photos that you can see them a bit better.

I have several photos to show so that the unit can be seen from many angles.

Here you can see the Tim Holtz Sizzix die "Hardware Findings" used with chipboard and designer paper to create the 6 hinges used for this project. I didn't have enough brads for the four holes in each hinge, so I filled them with silver Liquid Pearl, and looks just fine.

See a bit more of the top.

A closer look at the inside of the drawers. Once the class is completed I plan to make little dividers for some of the drawers and use this as my jewelry box.

If a person wanted to, they could leave out the drawers and use this as a little shelf unit, or a combination of shelves and drawers. In this next photo I have taken all the drawers out and stacked them next to the unit. This shows that it can stand as shelves alone, and that the paper was cut so that the pattern was matched from drawer to drawer. Without the drawers it could easily act as storage for 6 x 6 pads of designer papers!

Well that's it for this project. Thanks for stopping by today.

Graphic 45 Finalists

- For me, maybe next year! I'll make it then.

Hello my blog friends!

Many of you know that I auditioned for the Graphic45 design team and made the top 30. That was so incredibly exciting for me. Today the 16 finalists were chosen and I didn't make the final round. But I am determined to try again next year and in the mean time improve my skills.

I wish to congratulate the finalists, and I look forward to seeing all the fantastic projects they will create over this next year!

I encourage you to view the finalists' video presentations and see their creative projects. They are amazing!

Wishing you a great day, and happy papercrafting!

Just In Time Mother's Day Cards

-we all have busy schedules and sometimes we have to put something together at the last minute

In May, not too long before Mother's Day, I'll be teaching a class where we'll be putting together some last minute Mother's Day cards, or make them into birthday cards if you already have your Mother's Day cards made. These are the three.

This will be my first class where we will be colouring with Spectrum Noir markers. I love the new avenue of creativity we now have at Scrapbook Parade with this additional technique.

OK, lets get into the nitty-gritty of each card.

I love how the daisy (MFT Inspired by Flowers #4) turned out. I used these Spectrum Noir markers: stem - DG2, DG3, DG4; Daisy petals - EB1, BGR1; Daisy center - CB5,CT3, CT1, & BT1 around the outside of the flower. The oval is Spellbinders Petite Large #5, and I used MFT's Leaf Filled Flourish Die-Namics.

Next is the flower filled square pink card.

It's 5" SQ, And I used the following Die-Namics from MFT: Upsy Daisy, Winter Rose, & Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo. All flowers have a thin dimensional between each layer. Here are some other views that may help with details.

For the final card, I did a little paper piecing as taught to me by Julie Dinn

Again I used Spellbinder's Petite Ovals (lrg & sm), MFT Die-Namics Rounded Banner, and MFT's Pure Innocence Birthday Girl. I thought she looked like a a cute girl wishing her Mom a Happy Mother's Day with the balloon cut away. The tiny butterflies are punched out using EK Success Paper Shapers Small Butterfly punch. And all the white dots/beads are applied using White Enamel Accents.

These are the Spectrum Noir Markers that I used: Skin -FS3, FS4, FS9, & CR3 for cheeks; Hair -EB1, TN1, TN3, & TN7; Shoes -EB1 & EB7. I tried to create a little shadow on her dress using EB1, but I need to practice that a bit.

Here are a couple other views of the card.

I'm looking forward to more colouring in our classes. Thank you for coming by for a quick look.

Till next time, Happy Papercrafting!

May's Christmas Club Cards

-fourth month of making Christmas cards in the Scrapbook Parade Christmas Club!

I'm surprising everyone in this class with no bows! Well just two tiny ones, not a regular bow or a fancy one. I've kept the designs a little more simple, but added the fun of a square twisted easel card. Here is the line up.

Let's begin the details with the snowflake card.

This card is obviously loaded with a lot of bling. It does look wintry, don't you think? I really like white, blue and silver together. As I said this a very easy card. It does have a lot of popped up layers which hopefully you can see in this next photo.

Next, I'll show you the deep red and gold Christmas card.

I just love the effect of minute amounts of white in the Poinsettia center, the pearls, and 1/16th inch border, with the red and gold. I used MFT Die-Namics - Poinsettias & Fancy Flourish. I meant to have the flourish lower, but fell out of my fingers and landed where it had to stay.

Here's the side view.

Every layer of the Poinsettia is popped up. Here is a closer look at the flower.

Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die By Tim HoltzThis next card I used Tim Holtz's Mini Rosettes Sizzlits not to make rosettes, but a three layered folded tree!

I also shape folded the banner, for something a little different, and added a very light layer of Star Dust Stickles around the white oval and just inside the dotted oval after adding the little White Enamel Accents dots in the brown dots on the paper.

And the side view for this card...

I did think about decorating the tree a bit, but with that dotted paper it would have been too busy.

Now comes the square twisted easel card. This is what it looks like when it is flat and unopened.

Very simple in all white and gold. See, there's one of the tiny string bows I mentioned earlier, hee hee. Here it is opened.

Now you see the second little bow. You can also see that the card opens and sits at an angle instead of straight across. There is plenty of space to write a Christmas greeting in amongst the stars on the base.

I used MFT Stacking Stars Die-Namics for all the stars. Let's take a look at the other sides so that you have an idea how this works.

A little opening is created when the card is open like this, so I decided to take advantage of it and made a dangly paper charm with the gold string and some of the die cut stars, gluing the stars back to back with the string in between them.

So here in the back is the clue as to how this easel card opens with a twist.

Well that's it for the quick run down on these four cards. Have fun making your Christmas cards...to those that have started, lol.

Happy papercrafting!

Birthday Celebration Wreath

-sooooo much fun to make! I want to make more!

Hello blog friends! I have something fun and exciting to share with you today. I've been trying to decide for quite a while now whether to make a birthday banner or a birthday wreath for a class project. Birthday wreath won out because I thought it was a little more unique.

For this wreath I wanted to use colours that were happy, and would represent both masculine and feminine birthdays. So My Minds Eye Collectable "Unforgettable" came to mind. And for those of wondering about the size, the wreath measures 15" in diameter.

For these medallion rosettes, I decided that since the strips were 12" long that maybe I could score every 3/8" instead of every 1/4". It worked perfectly!

Here are a few close up shots.

Well that's it for the photos. Are you inspired to make a Birthday Celebration Wreath? If you are, have as much fun making yours, as I did mine.

Happy papercrafting everyone!

"School's Out" May Vintage Layout

-May Vintage layout class - school memories. Aren't my granchildren adorable?

This class is scheduled mid May, and school will soon be out. Using We R Memory Keepers "Hall Pass" collection for a vintage layout makes this an ideal time for a vintage style school layout.

I debated whether or not to put all the banner strips I fussy cut onto the layout, but I knew that my grandchildren in the photos would like it, so I did any way.

Every edge in this layout, including the photo, were ink distressed along the edges, with the exception of the banners. Faux stitching is on everything but the photos and banners, using a dark brown pen. I used a combination of Tin Holtz Distress Tea Dye, and Walnut Stain ink pads (I wanted to use Vintage Photo, but don't have that one) and Inkssentials ink blending tool.

All the photos are double and some even triple matted. That means extra work and added weight to the layout, but it sure looks good.

Here are photos of each 12 x 12 side of the layout and a close up.

I used Chestnut Liquid Pearls on the ribbon tabs. (I didn't want to bother with brads, lol)

So there you have it for this layout. Thank you for checking in for a peek.

Happy papercrafting!
