Favourites of 2017 #1 - Spectrum Noir Marker Card Classes

It is the time of year when we reflect on the creations of the year and choose our favourites. This is also difficult to keep down to a minimal number of projects to reshape with you. So I decided to break it down into categories; card classes - Spectrum Noir Markers, card class - Graphic 45, card classes - Shabby Chic, card classes - Spellbinders, layout classes, project classes, and personal creations. That will be 7 days of favourites! Since I have also posted classes for 2018 this year, and even though I created them in 2017, I will reserve them for my 2018 favourites review.

So shall we begin?

At the beginning of this year I was still teaching Spectrum Noir Marker classes. And one of my favourites is a very simple CAS card. See post here.

Since we are starting with Spectrum Noir Markers, I might as well go the next favourite Spectrum Noir favourite, rather than go in sequential order.

Next are two cards from the same class. I just love the cute bear and how fuzzy he looks.  See post here for both cards.

And this one is a favourite from the same class. Not only do I love this stamp, but I love how it turned out. This one is on display in the Scrapbook Essentials BC store.

I do have a couple more favourite cards that were created with Spectrum Noir Markers, but they were not used for classes, and I will show them in my Personal Creation Favourites later. For those of you that are waiting to colour again with Spectrum Noir Markers, we are hoping to get more classes in for 2018. It is difficult to get in all the classes we would like to have for you, and I appreciate your patience.

Spectrum Noir #5 class - Purples and Pale Hues

We had our last Beginners Spectrum Noir class on Saturday, where we introduced the Purples and Pale Hues to the beginner sets. These are the cards we worked toward accomplishing. In class there was only time to practise techniques and colouring the sample sheets. (forgot to take a photo of my practise sheet)

Here is the first image we worked on.

In this image you can see that the little blue bird was coloured twice. Once on the image, and a second bird to cut out and pop up over the first.

The second image (Penny Black) we worked on we also covered more practising of the hair and skin just as with the first card.

In the close up below, you will see that we coloured a second set of forearms with the hands holding a coffee mug, and glued it down at the elbows, while popping up behind the mug. This makes the woman seem just a little more dimensional. (don't know if you could see that in the photo above, but in real life it is more noticeable)

The next Spectrum Noir classes will be in the Fall and will be different from this beginners' series of classes. Spectrum Noir Class #4 - Reds, Browns and Warm Grays

Hard to believe that the beginner Spectrum Noir class at Scrapbook Essentials BC has only one more class left after this one!  Since we are introducing three basic colour sets into our marker collections, we are making three cards. These are they!

When: Saturday, May 27th
Time: 10:00 - 12:30
Cost: $25 + GST for each class IF YOU HAVE THE MARKERS
Where: Scrapbook Essentials BC, Victoria BC

Reds, Browns and Warm Grays are the colours for our fourth Spectrum Noir class. We will discuss working with colours that bleed more than others, and colouring skin and hair, along with colouring paper piecing will be a part of this class, as well as texturing your colouring with tactile fabrics.

Please bring to class: All of your Spectrum Noir Markers, your Spectrum Noir binder,  double sided adhesive tape, glue dots, 3D Foam Squares or foam tape, and scissors, and your previous class projects.  Also bring a 2" square of jean material, a 2" square of terry cloth (from a towel or face cloth), a 2" strip of 1" wide lace and  a 2" strip of 1" wide piece of grosgrain ribbon.

All three colour collections, plus focus on beginner hair & skin. Also colouring when paper piecing.

Here is my practice sheet. I am not including Copic colours this time, since everyone in class seems to have Spectrum Noir markers.

The next and final beginner class will introduce Purples and Pale Hues. We can work on a a few more skin tones when we have the Pale Tones.

Sharing Spellbinders Sample Cards - Feather

Sharing another Spellbinders card with you today from the Spellbinders reveal a couple of weeks ago. This one combines two different sets - Feather (SDS-038) and the featured die for the first Spellbinders Educator class, Tuscany Strip (S4-655). I decided to cut away a part of the card and glue two die cut Tuscany Strips, one on the front and one from behind on the inside to give the space a little more strength and a more finished look on the inside.

Here is a closer look at the coloured feather. It was quite fun to colour this feather, flowers, and the little ladybugs. I used Spectrum Noir to colour the feather, but a person could use colouring pencils, watercolour, etc., or an ink resist technique.

It will be fun to try different colours for future feather colouring. Below are the Spellbinders product used.

Spectrum Noir Class #3 - Pinks & Turquoises

Our third Spectrum Noir class! I'm a little busy typing up instructions for a few classes so I am not saying much, and just copying and pasting the post from Scrapbook Essentials. We are going to have even more fun in this class, so see you there!

Spectrum Noir #3 - Pinks & Turquoise

When: Saturday, April 22nd
Time: 10:00 - 12:30
Cost: $25 + GST...
Where: 3730 Grange Road Studio

This class brings us half way through the beginner series for Spectrum Noir. We have learned a lot and are getting comfortable using these amazing markers. In this third class we will be introducing Pinks and Turquoise into our colour collection and colouring a pink Flamingo with some background features and a turquoise butterfly with background features. Some of the techniques for this class will include how to make feathers on a bird, a couple of tips when colouring with water, and filling in more of a background watercolour look.

Remember to bring your homework from the last class for Show & Tell. There will be a surprise for those that do their homework and spend two hours practicing before this class.

Please bring to class: All your Neutral, Green, Yellow, Blue & Cool Gray markers to class along with your Pink & Turquoise markers. You will need your double sided adhesive tape, scissors, and 3D Foam squares to assemble your cards.

To substitute Copic Markers for the colours we are using - RV06, E81, BG10, BG11, BG15, BG49, E47, YG01, YG99, & BG72.

Sharing Spellbinders Sample Cards - Owl

OK, today we are back to me sharing the sample cards I made for the Spellbinders Educator reveal a week ago. Today's is the "Owl" (SDS-039). Such a sweet owl, don't you think? You will have to forgive the non-Spellbinders sentiment this time. I enjoyed colouring this image, and had fun with the little extra feathers. It's so nice to have the dies for each item in the stamp set.

Here is the card when it was on display at the reveal. It is now on display at Scrapbook Essentials BC in the new Spellbinders section of the store.

...and the side view to see the layering of this card. Of course you don't have to pop up all the layers I did, I just like the overall effect.

If you like colouring, whether it be with alcohol markers, colouring pencils, or watercolour pencils, this is a fun stamp and dies set! And, I know that there are 2 or 3 at Scrapbook Essentials BC, waiting for you to add to your repertoire and write you name on it.

Spectrum Noir 2 Class - Blues, Yellows, & Cool Grays

These basic cards, ready for your finishing touches, are what will be the end result of our Spectrum Noir 2 class.

When: Saturday, March 18th
Time: 10:00 - 12:30 (may need an extra half hour)
Where: 3730 Grange Road in the Studio
Cost: $25 + GST for each class IF YOU HAVE THE MARKERS
 

Spectrum Noir Class # 2 introduces Yellows, Blues, & Cool Grays to first timers. In this class we continue with blending of colours of the same spectrum and blending different colours together. And speaking of colours, we will colour one image all in cool grays to improve our colouring techniques, and show you that you can use just one colour to make incredible images (to use on monochromatic cards if you wish and great for masculine cards, too). We will also learn two different techniques that make your images pop out of the paper more and give a hint to a background. You will also receive your usual class practice sheet as well as your good piece to colour for your basic simple cards (that you may have to complete at home as we will probably be colouring the whole class time). We will also discuss/learn about the advantages of using different Memento ink colours to stamp images with.

Please bring to class: If you already have your SPECTRUM NOIR markers - CT1, GB5, OR1, TB1, TB3, TB5, CG2 and/or DG2, IG8, IG6, IG4, IG2, IG1& Blender. To put the cards together, you will need scissors, double sided adhesive tape, 3D Foam Squares, 3/16 hole punch, & min-glue dots.

COPIC substitute marker colours - YO2, YR15, YRO4, B41, B23, B66, YGO3 or G24, C1, C2, C3, C5, C7, & Blender.

Just add your sentiments to the front, and whatever else you would like, to complete these cards.

Enhance your skills by colouring 'gray scale' or monochromatic. You'll be surprised what you learn by doing it.

The Spectrum Noir #3 class will be April 22nd, so look for the class samples coming soon.

Spectum Noir Colouring Class 1 - HFC Woodsy Treescape Stamps

Scrapbook Essentials BC,  is starting Spectrum Noir Colouring Classes. For the first class we will be working with "Essentials" and "Greens", using the Heartfelt Creations stamps from "Woodsy Treescapes".

I like to always create a practice sheet before I colour the actual piece for my project whenever I use a new stamp. That way I can put it in a binder and have it as a resource when I next use the same stamp again in the future.

This is my practice sheet for these two stamps.

Now, I will show you the simple (CAS) cards that we will have completed for the first colouring class.

Spectrum Noir #1 - Essentials & Greens


I'm so excited to have the opportunity to teach Spectrum Noir Classes again. If you have never used alcohol markers to colour and blend before, or would love a refresher course, I look forward to seeing you there. We will begin with the two basic sets of "Essentials" and "Greens". You will receive Practice Sheets in class, as well as the stamped project pieces. You may wish to bring a 3-hole binder and clear page/sheet covers to place your practice sheets and notes into. We will complete 2 simple cards in class.


This is what you will need to bring to class with you: pen &/or pencil (for notes), non-stick craft mat, adhesive, scissors, and your black & white 3D Foam Squares (large). If you already have your Spectrum Noir markers Bring your Essentials (blender, BGR1, BGR3) Greens (DG2, DG3, DG4, CG1, CG2).


These are the Spectrum Noir classes that are scheduled;

Class 1 - Saturday, February 18th - 10:00 - 12:30 (Essentials and Greens - 2 packs)
Class 2 - Saturday, March 18th - 10:00 - 12:30 (Blues, Yellow and Cool Greys - 3 packs)

On a personal note, it's been a long time since I've coloured with Spectrum Noir Markers. I loved it three years ago, and I still love it (even though I am a little out of practice).
