Christmas in July Series - Part 1c - Scrapbook Parade Class

Welcome back to day three of this set of cards.

Today I'll show you the Snowflake card.

Once again I took five chipboard snowflakes and covered them with VersaMark ink and heat embossed them with white embossing powder, and covered them with Icicle Stickles. I wove 1/8" red ribbon through them to create a sort of wreath of snowflakes as you can see in the following close up.

For the sentiment, I stamped it in Cranberry Colorbox ink directly onto the card base, and once again used Spellbinders Petite Ovals to cut out of the gold foil and green cardstocks. The entire green & gold layer is popped up to create a set back sentiment in the oval as seen in the close up below.

I then added the tiny red pearls on either side of the oval frame. Another fairly simple Christmas card.

Christmas in July Series - Part 1b - Scrapbook Parade

Hope you enjoyed yesterday's card of this set of Christmas cards. Today I'll share with you more details on this card.

Believe it or not, the ribbon you see used here was what inspired me to the design of this card. My friend and I were at Michael's and came across a bin of these very large rolls of ribbon that averaged 30 feet for only $1.00!! When I saw this sheer sparkly ribbon I knew I had to make a Christmas card using it with brown, red, and gold. This is what I saw in my head.

I didn't do anything to any of the cardstocks, leaving them as they are, except for the gold embossing. I used an old wood block sentiment stamp, heat embossing it in gold, on the brown. The cream poinsettia is three layers of cream, heat embossed with gold, as is the green layer under it, using the same poinsettia stamp. Origin of the stamp unknown.

In some ways this is a very simple card.

Christmas in July Series - Part 1a - Scrapbook Parade Class

How quickly times flies by! Has it already been six months since Christmas? That means there are only six months left till Christmas! So for us crafters, we begin to once again think about our favorite time of year, and we need to plan ahead. So this is the first Christmas card class for Scrapbook Parade's Christmas in July series of classes. And since we haven't posted much lately, and because I'll be away for a week visiting Dana in Calgary, I decided to break up this post into four, one for each of the cards in the first class of this series. This is the set we'll be working on.

And this is the first card I'll share the details of, with you.

I love doing this background technique where you ink your embossing folder and then emboss as usual. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink - Antique Linen with a cream cardstock. The result is so subtle, but effective. especially with the gold foil cardstock.

Next is a close up of the chipboard angel. I inked the entire angel with VersaMark and heat embossed it with a white embossing powder, which to me looks more cream than white. I then applied Stardust Stickles onto the wings, mounting the angel onto a gold foil Spellbinder Petite Oval with a pop-dot when dry.

Next, the sentiment. This is one that Dana gave to me when I left Calgary. I know it is PTI, but I couldn't tell you what set it came from. I heat embossed it with gold, and used four little brads in the corners, popping it up.

Where Oh Where Have We Gone?

Our apologies to our followers, but we have both been so busy that we haven't posted anything for a while. And now, I find myself leaving on the 20th for a little over a week. I do have one future class posting for a July class that I've divided up into four posts and scheduled over the next few days while I make a trip back to Calgary to visit my daughter, Dana. I can hardly wait! I hope to have some time crafting with Dana while there, so who knows, perhaps I will post something from there. In the mean time, I hope you will enjoy the next fours days worth of posts.

Vintage Brag Book - Scrapbook Parade Class

One day, while in a used book shop, I came across a small section displaying vintage books. Some were expensive, and  few others were very reasonable. While looking inside these books, and noting the aging papers, I thought how we try to ink distress paper to  make it look like this, and here it is already naturally aged. That is when I thought about using these books for a vintage project. I came up with the idea of an open book vintage,or shabby chic, brag book. I sometimes have difficulty knowig the difference between the two styes. So I bought two books that were printed in the 1920's for around $3 each and went to work.

Using the Prima Almanac collection, I chose to display a 50th wedding anniversary photo, but a person could brag about many special occasions, such as a birth, a graduation, a wedding, a great achievement of some kind, and so on. Now all things vintage have many details, and this project is no exception. So there are a lot of photos for you to see as many of the details as possible. Here we go.

This is a class that is scheduled for August. Thank you for stopping by to have a look. I have one more book, and am contemplating the same idea, but not as a vintage project. I'm thinking more retro or maybe even see if I could create this same idea as a CAS. I'll have to think on the matter for a while and see what I come up with.

Runway Inspired, CAS-ual Fridays, Retro Sketches and Simon Says Stamp!

This month's Runway Inspired Challenge [graphic below] was the perfect excuse to get out my houndstooth stencil. I decided to use mists rather than inks.

Using this week's Retro Sketch, I masked off a portion of the card before misting the yellow. I then masked off the yellow to mist the pink strip.

I created the bow by using the smaller Loopsy Daisy die, assembling with a large rhinestone brad and spraying with Shimmer Goosebumps (I masked the rhinestone first). I am entering this in CAS-ual Fridays bling challenge, as well as Simon Says Stamp Diamond Jubilee, Crowns and Gems challenge. It's a very shimmery card!!

Ella's Birthday

My youngest grandaughter has her birthday this week. She is both a sweetheart and quite the little character. I love her and miss her. The poor girl will be spending her birthday in the hospital this year, going in the day before her birthday for some surgery on a lazy eye. I wish I could be there and see her in the hospital, but do look forward to seeing her at the end of this month!

Here is the card I made for her. I hadn't planned on adding the little flowers on the card originally, but as an after thought, realized she might enjoy them at her age.

I hope she enjoys the three little mice sitting down to enjoy a birthday celebration with a cupcake.

Little Darlings - Scrapbook Parade Class

When I first saw this collection I was totally enthralled and excited about the chance to be able to use these enchanting papers in at least one of the many ideas that came pouring into my mind. Keeping it a more simple project for a class, this is what I came up with.

Here at the top is a larger tag.

And lastly, the largest tag on this project.

The girl version is similar, but will show you the close-ups just the same.

There are only two tags on this version, the medium sized one and the larger one.

Below is the display card flattened against a page layout made specifically for it to be placed into a scrapbook or a shadow box.

 

The blank space on the front is for a bay photo, and the tags can have more photos or can used as journaling cards.

Hint of Retro Card Set in a Box - Scrapbook Parade Class

I've been so very busy and feel badly that I won't have the time to say much in this post about this class that I'll be teaching in July, but I wanted you to see the photos and give you some eye candy and maybe some inspiration. This was a fun set to make!
