A German Christmas tradition my family practices is that of Advent. Each of the four Sundays before Christmas, we light a candle and read a Christmas story, sing Christmas song(s) and partake of German Christmas goodies, like Lebkuchen.
This year, I decided I wanted an actual candle advent, instead of just lighting tealights. Since I'm cheap, poor and have basically been snowed in, my mother and I made do with items I had gathering dust in my Christmas bin. The only thing I bought were the candles--from the same European delicatessen that we purchased our goodies at.
