Stamping Vacation DT: Lots of Paper Challenge

This month's Lots of Paper Challenge at Stamping Vacation asks us to use patterned paper with snowflakes on it. I chose a rustic color scheme:

I started with a Fine Linen card base and distress inked the edges of it and the patterned paper with Tim Holtz's Frayed Burlap. After stitching the border, I adhered the fuzzy fabric trim. The popped-up old-fashioned sled is from a box of Victorian Glimmer Chips that I inked with Old Paper and Frayed Burlap. The popped-up sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's Mini Scrapbook Series: Journaling Circles. So perfect! It's stamped in Vintage Photo Tim Holtz ink on a Fine Linen circle that was inked with Frayed Burlap. The pinking circle beneath was cut from Kraft with Spellbinders and inked with Vintage Photo.

The interior stamping job didn't turn out too well so I had to elaborate a little. Turned out spiffy!! More inked edges and a fitting sentiment from Papertrey's Inside and Out: Holiday.

Thanks for visiting!

Color Cue {9} Challenge

I have now completed 3 cards with Dawn's Color Cue {9} Challenge in mind... I can't decide which one to enter!!

Here's my latest, and heretofore unblogged, card, which features a digital stamp from Stamping Dragon Designs (Stamping Vacation's sponsor this month):

Yes, I actually ruffled tulle and sewed it to the image! I'm amazed with myself! ;) It looks better in person, of course.

I used Copics to color the dress form and then cut it out. I used a chisel glue pen to adhere glitter to the bodice and used a paper piercer and piercing mat to make the sewing holes for the bit of ruffled tulle.  I pop-dotted the cutout over a matching printed image that I had diecut and embossed with Spellbinders Mega Ovals. The scalloped border was done on glimmer Bazzill cardstock (I discovered I didn't have Papertrey Ink's Pink Shimmer at that moment) and the card base on Soft Stone. These were both done with Spellbinders as well. The border on the card base was done with the Spellbinder die, Spica pen, glue pen and glitter. I left this card sentiment-free.

A fun and cute card!

The other cards I did are here:

and here:

Any suggestions? The Color Cue {9} Challenge is due November 7th!

{Supplies}

(Sewing Dummy Card)
  • Cardstock: Stamper's Select, Soft Stone (Papertrey Ink); pink shimmer (Bazzill)
  • Patterned Paper (envelope liner): Bitty Dot Basics (Papertrey Ink)
  • Digital Stamp: dress form (Stamping Dragon Designs)
  • Copics: R20, R22, R24, T1, 0 (in retrospect, I would've used W1 instead of T1 to go with the Soft Stone cardstock...)
  • Dies: Mega Ovals, Scalloped Mega Ovals, Labels 8 (Spellbinders); A2 Envelope Liner (Papertrey Ink)
  • Other Tools: assorted glue pens, Prisma glitter, pink Spica, white tulle, paper piercer (Tim Holtz)

Color Cue {9} and Stamping Vacation DT: White Space Challenge

Another card with the Color Cue {9} colors... I'm going to submit this one over the other one. This is my card for Stamping Vacation's new White Space Challenge: only white cardstock allowed! This month's challenge asks for embossed cardstock, sentiment and ribbon only. My embossed frame is popped up over the card base.

This was my first time using a Cuttlebug Embossing Plus folder. A really tight squeeze through the Cuttlebug but fabulous results! The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink's With Sympathy and the ribbon is Sweet Blush satin (I had mom tie the bow for me as I'm challenged that way!).

{Supplies--all Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Cardstock: Stamper's Select
  • Stamps: With Sympathy
  • Ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento)
  • Ribbon: Sweet Blush satin
  • Embossing Plus folder: Brocade Frame
  • Other Tools: clear embossing powder (Filigree)

Color Cue {9} and Stamping Vacation DT: Have You Tried Challenge

This month's Have You Tried Challenge at Stamping Vacation requires us to paper piece with dry embossed paper... I chose to incorporate this project with Dawn's Color Cue {9} colors which celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness month...

This is a beautiful color scheme and I had so many ideas for it! I went for simple but I'm not sure I'm pleased with the results... I made another card with these colors on a post being published on Oct 25th... Not sure which one I'll enter.

Using the pennant banner from Lawn Fawn's Bannerific, I cut out some Sweet Blush and Soft Stone cardstock and embossed it using Cuttlebug's Textile and Swiss Dots folder. I added some black, pink and clear rhinestones with my iRock and heat embossed the sentiment. Using Copic markers, I colored pink and black rhinestones on a flourish and combined it with the sentiment.

Quick and simple.

{Supplies--all PTI unless noted}
  • Cardstock: Sweet Blush, Soft Stone, Stamper's Select
  • Stamps: Bannerific (Lawn Fawn), Faux Ribbon (sentiment)
  • Ink: Black Tuxedo (Memento)
  • Other tools: Textile and Swiss Dots embossing folders (Cuttlebug); clear embossing powder (Filigree); rhinestone flourish (dollar store); iRock and rhinestones (Imaginisce); Copics: RV04, 100, 0; Corner Chomper (We R Memory Keepers )

Halloween Birthday Cards

A coworker asked for a Halloween-themed birthday card for her son and I had so much fun with this! I gave her a choice of three...

Now, I realize I got the pun wrong on this one... It should probably read "creepy" rather than "spooky" but I had a hard time telling someone to have a creepy birthday... I inked the embossed web with white chalk ink. This was my first time ever cutting vinyl with the Cricut!

I used my Martha Stewart Spiderweb edge punch on the inside of the card...

The next card was a little simpler. There is an inverted scallop border under the sentiment circle that's difficult to see but otherwise, fairly straightforward. The embossing was done on Core'dinations and then sanded... The twine was colored with a Copic marker!

This last card was my first idea... I even sketched it ahead of time! Guess I needed to work up to it!

It's my first gatefold! I did a full A7 size which required the use of some 12x24 Cricut cardstock for the card base. I used embossed, sanded and distressed panels on the front with Core'dinations Black Magic cardstock. I love the idea of spiderweb-punched vellum!! In retrospect, I should've distress inked these for better effect...

I got the patterned papers on the front with this card in mind. I think they're cute! I zig-zag stitched them for fun. Should I have inked these as well? It's easy to want to ink everything!! ;)

And here's the open card...

So much fun! I love all the details on this!

The writing panels and sentiment strip started out as white but were inked with Anitque Linen, Old Paper and Black Soot Tim Holtz Distress Inks. The haunted house was embossed on Core'dinations Black Magic, cut out and sanded. I love how it turned out on the bat background paper (which I, of course, distress inked first!)!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thank You Cards

I wanted to make small thank you cards to express my appreciation to all those that came to my sons 3rd Birthday. This year he started his School for Children with Disabilities (Seth has Global Developmental Delay, he cant walk or talk yet) and has made some great friends that shared his special day with him, along with many others we have know for some time :)

The makings for the cards are all Pti unless otherwise stated and are as follows:

I made 8 cards out of 3 sheets of Stamper's Select white cardstock

I stamped the balloons, and Thank You sentiment using Up Up and Away stamp set, and cut out using coordinating die.

I stamped the Jar and cut out using Frienship Jar stamp set and coordinating die.

I stamped the images and sentiment with a Memento black ink pad.

I used the above 4 copics to color the balloons.

Stamping Vacation DT: What a Guy Challenge

This month's What a Guy Challenge at Stamping Vacation invites us to create a masculine card with a pocket on it. I had to consciously keep myself from going for Papertrey Ink's Library Pocket die. I decided to pull up CricutSearch.com to see what gems I might have hidden within my Cricut cartridges. Lo, and behold, Old West had the perfect thing!

This card may have turned a little bit feminine with the addition of the Stickles for the pocket decoration but I'm not too worried.

The pocket was cut out on Core'dinations Vintage Collection cardstock. I stitched around the front-facing portion and assembled the card pocket. The decorative pattern was done with Yellow Stickles.

The 'kerchief was cut out on __________ as well as Stamper's Select cardstock. I stitched around the front-facing portion and used a gel pen on the decorative "stitching" cuts. On the folded portion to the side of the front, I inked it with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Fired Brick and added a bit of Black Copic to the crease, using the Colorless Blender to fade it to shadow (not entirely pleased with this). The patterned paper piece was then adhered, using my Xyron, to the white cardstock piece for stiffness as well as to create a writing area on the back.

The sentiment (Father Knows Best) was done on Kraft cardstock that had been scored and folded to give it a slight accordian pop off from the card.

{Supplies}
  • Cardstock: blue - Vintage Collection (Core'dinations Ebony & Ivory collection); white - Stamper's Select (Papertrey Ink); Kraft (Papertrey Ink)
  • Patterned Paper: _________________
  • Stamps: Father Knows Best (Papertrey Ink)
  • Ink: Dark Chocolate (Papertrey Ink); Fired Brick (Tim Holtz Distress Ink)
  • Cricut Cartridge: Old West
  • Other Tools: Copics - 100, 0; sewing machine; Stickles - Yellow (Ranger)

Blog Hop Cards Revisited

Nearly a month ago, I participated in Stamping Vacation's 1st blog hop, which featured homemade embellishments. I focused on the potential of felt in making embellishments, making 6 cards in the span of a few hours. That's a complete record for me! I didn't go into much detail on the cards and decided to do a revisit.

It's difficult to see in any of the pictures but there are plenty of score lines on these: 2 above the sentiment, 2 below and a frame around the popped up butterfly piece. Since the blog hop, I added a rhinestone flourish butterfly trail for added pizazz on the card above and a tulle tie on the card below.

Both very simple cards but good in a pinch! ;)

This card, I simply added antennae to the butterfly...

The matching card to this one has already been used up but it was my favorite, with a more ruffly ribbon than pleated.

Well, that's it! (All supplies listed on original post.)

Another Challenge Entry Today by Sabrina

I love 2S4Y Sketches and the inspiration I can find there. I check it out regularly. It is wonderful to be a part of challenges where we are inspired by others and can stretch our creative skills. Just love it! This entry is for 2S4Y using Kazan's sketch 63 a great sketch to play with. And once again there is the great inspiration from the design team. I also enjoy checking out all the entries, and am always amazed at the creativity displayed.

Well, let's get to my entry. With Christmas on my mind I decided to create a card to add to my Christmas collection.

I used Spellbinders Create a Flake One Shapabilities placing them around the stamped sentiment and embossed them into the white. After attaching it onto the blue cardstock, the ribbon was then wrapped around and the assembled piece placed on the white card.

The large popped up snowflake was die cut from the same Spellbinders set and is the largest. I covered it with VersMark and heat embossed with clear. While still hot I sprinkled white glitter onto it and pressed it in before it cooled. Unfortunately you can't see the glitter too well in the photo. I then used Star Dust Stickles and outlined the snowflake and it's holes adding the clear diamond-like cut button to the center. I also used the Stickles adding more visual interest and some texture to the embossed snowflakes, as well as to the stamped sentiment. I worked very carefully applying it to the sentiment and I'm very pleased with the result.

Thanks for stopping by our blog today to view our posts. Have a fun and creative weekend!

Crumpled Flower Tutorial

I happened upon a super easy crumpled flower tutorial here!

Card Patterns Sketch 85 & Color Cue {9} Challenges - Sabrina

I'm having more fun!  Fun with challenges. In this post I'm combining the two challenges of CPS 85 with Color Cue {9}. The thing about challenges, I find, is that it is hard to know which of your ideas to use in creating your entry. Which would be the best one to use; the one that could possibly lead to the win?
When I see pink and white with either black or gray, I think of love and weddings. I chose to go with the gray, a dark gray, rather than the black. The white layer is popped up, as is the pink centered heart. The one thing that doesn't show up well on these photos is the fine line circle of the stamp that I covered with Star Dust Stickles for some glitter and sparkle. I was so happy with the perfect application of the fine lined circle with even thickness, and you can't even see it.
Initially, I had not planned to add the jewels in the four corners or add the rhinestone flourishes. I had considered Cuttlebug embossing for texture, but remembered how some talented designers are very CAS in their creations resulting in a very stunning look. I wanted to try to do that. However, there seemed to be something lacking and I ended up using the jewels in the corners and the flourishes. I was almost wishing that I had used different ribbon so that I could make a beautiful bow. But, alas, I had already applied the ribbon as shown and I wanted to make a mailable card since I so rarely do that. I think my creative mojo was a little off today.

Old World Opulent Christmas - Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge 131: Sabrina

A few weeks ago I came across some of Teresa Collins Noel papers, and when I saw the Red Damask, I thought rich colors,old-world, and wealth - what possibilities! Especially if I included gold embellishment. When I saw the age distressed gold back I knew I would keep it to just the red and gold colors. So, when I found the sketch challenge at Taylored Expressions, I pulled out this paper and said to myself, "OK, now make a Christmas card".

I used a lot of gold liquid pearls to give it that old-world wealthy look. Plus, this is the first time I used my new Just Rite stamps! I'll have to try them out again soon! I found them to give a nice crisp stamp.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Stamping Vacation DT: No No Challenge

This month's No No Challenge at Stamping Vacation states that we cannot use a stamped image that starts with the letter "s." Too simple!

I had a Harvest Gold card base with a stamped border that I had already cut out so I chose to use that as my inspiration. I pulled out my unused Year of Flowers: Daffodils stamp set and got set to Copic color!

I die cut and embossed the front window of the card using Big Scalloped Ovals (largest in the small set) and then impressed the front of the card with my Linen & Canvas impression plate (I believe this is the Canvas side). I added some Dark Chocolate grosgrain ribbon and fashioned a sort of flat bow (which I first used here).

The interior of the card:

You can see that there's no where to write... This perplexed me until my mother said they could write on the back of the card. It's also possible to write a tiny note in the left margin... Sometimes less is more. ;) You could also include a separate letter, as my Grandma would encourage!

{Supplies--all Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Cardstock: Harvest Gold
  • Patterned Paper (envelope liner): Bitty Box Basics
  • Stamps: Year of Flowers: Daffodils, Vintage Picnic (sentiment), ClearDesign: Scallop Borders (Hero Arts)
  • Ink: Rich Cocoa (Memento), Dark Chocolate (border)
  • Ribbon: Dark Chocolate grosgrain
  • Copics: Y21, YR23, YR24, YG93, YG95, YG97, 0, W1
  • Die: Big Scalloped Oval (Spellbinders)

Stamping Vacation DT: Embellish It Challenge

Stamping Vacation's Embellish It Challenge this month is to use brackets. Since this has to be an embellishment and not just a stamp, I went through all my chipboard and grungeboard. I finally found the size I was looking for in my Bazzill Basics Chipboard: Marguerita Alpha pack (in Raven).

I had originally intended to use Tim Holtz Crackle Paint on them but it didn't go with the look of my card. So I applied black rhinestones instead. Looks so cool!

I actually stamped the black card base with Damask Designs and Versamark Dazzle: Frost ink, but it wasn't very discernible. So I changed tacks and used my Giga Guidelines impression plate instead. It still has that bit of sparkle which looks neat.

The sentiment uses stamps from Big & Bold Wishes and uses a little flourish from Waltzingmouse Stamp's Very Vintage Labels #4 stamp set. The Nesties I used were Mega Ovals and Mega Classic Scalloped Ovals.

A fun and simple project!

{Supplies--Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Cardstock: True Black, Stamper's Select, Pure Poppy
  • Patterned Paper (envelope liner): Bitty Dot Basics
  • Stamps: Big & Bold Wishes, Very Vintage Labels #4 (Waltzingmouse Stamps)
  • Ink: Pure Poppy, Tuxedo Black (Memento), Versamark Dazzle: Frost
  • Dies: Mega Ovals (Spellbinders), Mega Classic Scalloped Ovals (Spellbinders), A2 Envelope Liner
  • Impression Plate: Giga Guidelines
  • Other Tools: black rhinestones (dollar store)

Fall Birthdays

A coworker requested a fall-themed birthday card for a dear friend. I created two from which she can pick as I will just use the other one for my mother-in-law's bday coming up.

Here is the first:

More detail:

It's rather thick for mailing with the buttons but it's still possible. Or perhaps her friend lives locally... ;)

This card also goes along with Stamping Vacation's Color Combo Challenge this month: caramel, pumpkin and sage.

The other card was created with the obvious influence of Debbie Olsen's card here. Mine is definitely not as exciting without all that bling, but I really like the added touch of Glossy Accents on the pumpkins! My card size is a touch too big, though.

Here's a closeup on the pumpkins. The picture is blurry but you can get a good sense of the shine (Glossy Accents - pumpkins; clear embossing powder - basket).

This was my very first attempt with Copic airbrush! I used B0000 (a VERY pale blue) behind the pumpkin basket (I used masking to preserve the coloring area). I meant to get only a burst of blue behind the basket area, but instead covered the whole background, minus the border where I kept the Spellbinder die. Not to worry, it's barely discernible anyway. ;)

Card Instructions:

Happy Birthday Dear Friend

Using an A2 Terracotta Tile card base, I inked the edges using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. The next layer is Dark Chocolate and then Simply Chartreuse, which was inked with Rusty Hinge. I sewed the burlap to these layers (one or both, I can't remember specifically) and then added the felt leaves on which I sewed the "veins." I layered Dark Chocolate, Terracotta Tile and Simply Chartreuse buttons and tied them with Jute twine. I glue-gunned the embellishment to the front of the leaves. The sentiment was stamped on Kraft cardstock with Dark Chocolate and Terracotta Tile ink and popped up on top.

Happy Birthday

Using a 5.5" square Terracotta Tile card base, I embossed the largest Spellbinders Labels 16 on the front. I die cut the next smaller size on Rustic White cardstock. I stamped the basket and pumpkins in Rich Cocoa Memento ink (Copic-friendly) and also stamped it on scrap paper to mask for the airbrushing. Leaving the Spellbinders die in place to keep the embossed border clean, I attempted to Copic airbrush a bit of blue background. I removed the mask, did my Copic coloring and then clear heat embossed the basket on Dark Chocolate cardstock. I cut this out and adhered it over top of the stamped basket image. There's a bit of Copic on the handles and rim of the basket as well. I also Copic-ed and cut out the additional pumpkins, popping them up over the basket. Once this was completely assembled, I used my Glossy Accents on the the pumpkins and stems, sparing the leaves. The leaves were done using Terracotta Tile and New Leaf w/Dk Chocolate colors primarily, but once I decided to use Simply Chartreuse satin ribbon, I tried coloring over the New Leaf with Simply Chartreuse colors. Not too successfully, but it's not a big deal. This whole piece was popped up within the embossed area. The sentiment was stamped in Dark Chocolate ink and written over with Chocolate Spica pen. Perhaps I'll go back and add some extra bling but it's really just a "simple" card.

2S4Y Challenge 62 - Stacey's Sketch - Sabrina

Now for Stacey's bonus sketch for 2S4Y Challenge 62. This is the perfect sketch to use in creating my 3rd child, 2nd daughter's, 28th birthday card. Her birthday isn't until Dec.17th, but between this sketch and wanting to create her card before getting into the Christmas project mode, I now have it done!

She loves sparkle and glitz; a bit of Victorian; butterflies, which I didn't include this time; soft feminine colors; and flowers. So I tried to create a card from this sketch keeping those things she likes in mind.

So without further dialogue, this is my entry for Stacey's sketch.
The one unfortunate thing is that in all of the photos the cream cardstock pieces are reflecting pink and do not look cream colored. Also, the sparkle of glitter is around the cream dots on the blue paper doesn't show up as well in the photos, because it's really sparkly. I also found that spraying the glitter paper with hairspray helped to keep as much of the glitter from falling off, This was a tip suggest by Stefanie who is part of our ATC blog team. It does help.

The flowers, I made with scrap paper (not the heavy weight for card-making and crafting, but of 12 x 12 paper that is of standard paper thickness). I actually have jars filled with these flowers in various colors, and an assortment of leaves, too. It's a great way to use up those thin paper scraps. This is something I can do when watching a movie or favorite TV Show. The leaves and cedar-like twigs where cut with Martha Stewart punches.

Stamps used - Hero Arts Old Letter Writing, which I heat embossed with white powder,  and Papertrey Ink - Fillable Frames Set #4 Stamp Set, I used for the Sentiment on half of a Labels 16 die cut. I found that even score tape had a difficult time adhering well enough to the glitter paper as it was easy to take off when I realized I hadn't yet attached the ribbon, and had to use white pearl brads to ensure the layers would not start to come off with passing of time.

Well that's it for my two entries for this challenge. As always, I had great fun in creating my projects for this challenge. Happy crafting everyone! Thanks for stopping by.
