Photo Display Using G45 French Country

-I'm so excited to finally get to this project! Thank you Laura Denison for allowing me to teach a class using your idea!

I've been waiting since February 2013 to make this project! When I saw Laura Denison's project on the Graphic 45 blog, and contacted her and asked if I could teach a class using her concept. She graciously gave me permission, and now I have room in my schedule for it! Since other papers have come out since Laura's creation, I decided that Graphic 45's French Country collection would work beautifully for this project. And here is my version of Laura's project.

I chose to use 8 cards rather than the 6 that Laura had created. There was room for more so I made a couple more. There are just so may lovely papers to use, I had to use more of them, lol.

The next few photos are from other angles to give you a better view and idea of all the cards in the display box/rack.

The next photo shows you the display box, or rack if you will, and you can figure out how it works from that.

A few of the details on this box are mentioned in the video toward the end of this post. But, in the meantime, I made a collage of photos for you that show each of the display cards individually, and you can see them first. I think you can easily figure out which ones are the backs and which are the fronts.

And now for a walk through the project in this video presentation.

Thank you for checking in to have a peek at this project. Happy papercrafting!

Spectrum Noir Fun - Animals

-Scrapbook Parade has completed their first round of Spectrum Noir Beginners classes, and now it's time to have some fun!

Time to refine our skills, and still learn a few new techniques. This class is about colouring with dots for a textured look, colouring on paper piecing, and of course a little something easy and familiar too.

These are the two cards for this class.

These stamped images are from the same stamp set from Penny Black entitled "Tiny Wishes". Let's begin with the cute little girl hedgehog.

As you can see he is paper pieced. It takes extra time to do this, but the visual effect is so worth the extra time. And using the markers on the designer paper to add shape and shadow is fun to do.

To colour the little darling, I used the dot method, except for her face. This adds dimension and texture to her prickly parts. I'll get a little closer for you so you can see it a little better, maybe.

Like her polk-a-dot shoes? Well, anyway, she has her main body, arms and face coloured on the main piece of paper. Then, on another piece. I coloured her arm holding the backpack strap, the other pink strap, and the rose in her hat. I cut these out. Then out of the pink diagonal paper I stamped, coloured and cut out her hat. On the light green dotted paper, I stamped, coloured and cut out her shoes, while doing the same with her dress on another patterned paper. Then all these layers are glued over each other to create a bit of dimension. You can see it much better in real.

Here is the card from the side so that you can see the glued layers and the  popped up layers of the card.

On to the easier colouring piece, the cute little hanging mouse.

Tiny things are hard to colour, and this image is full of tiny things. I just love the dangling tiny mouse, though.

Here is a close up.

Here's a side view to see all the popped up layers. You know me and layers. lol!

Well that's all there is to see. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention the paper! I used My Minds Eye Collectable "Memorable".

Here is my practice piece for those taking my class in August.

Thank you for stopping by today to have a looksee, and thank you for leaving your comments too. I still can't believe that I'm teaching this when this only my 7th time using markers. I love the Spectrum Noir markers! I wonder if I'll ever find the time to complete my accreditation! I've been trying for a month now, but have so much to do....

Happy papercrafting!

Something Old for a New Vintage Card Class

-came across a stash of Prima Almanac left over from previous classes and there is enough there to create a couple more classes. This is one.

In case you are wondering why there haven't been any posts for a while, I took a week off to get everything out of my craftroom to tidy, clean, and reorganize. It took one day to get it all out, but 5 days were not enough to get it back in to where I wanted it. LOL.A week wasn't enough, but it is vastly improved with only about another two days more time to get it where I want it.

Then this last week I had so much fun having Dana and her family for a week long visit. We were hoping to get some craft time in with just the two of us, but it never happened. It was wonderful to have them all here, and the week went by much too quickly. Would love to have had them for two weeks. Now to the reason of this post.

With summer here and everyone busy doing their summer things, classes are not as many, but I know I suffer from papercrafting withdrawal if I'm away from it too long, so I decided to use this find and create a class for those who might go through the same. - tee hee.

So these are the 5 x 7's I came up with for a class at the end of July.

There were a lot of the die cuts remaining and so I could use more than one if I chose to do so. That is what I did for this first card. I used two to create a dimensional frame by cutting out the center to one of them.

I also fussy cut out two pieces to create the popped up scene. I had great fun with this one. Many in my classes know how much I like to fussy cut and create with the pieces. So when I create a vintage anything, it is an automatic expectation. lol

Here are a couple of shots to better show the layers and pop ups.

Next is one that is a bit more feminine.

For this one I put two different colours of ribbon together, wrapping it around from the back to the front where I had punched two holes like in the wood button and fed the ribbon up to the front through them. Adding the button and feeding the ribbon ends through it, I then attached the charms made with a smaller Prima wood button from the collection along with a laser cut chipboard key and tied two bows using on of each colour with each bow. (peach on one side and black on the other, each time)

Here are some other views.

With the third card I went with more of a 'wow' factor by using more black.

This would make a good sympathy card too.  The dies used here are from My Favorite Things - Leaf-Filled Flourish, and Leafy Flourish.

The last card is much more muted.

For this card I picked out some of the colours in the die cut card matching them with Bazzill Champagne, and Dusk. I used a metallic vintage corner and created a lace flower by weaving a needle and thread along one edge and pulling tight. The Tim Holtz Memo Pins hold the tiny cut out alpha tickets (HB2U - Happy Birthday to You) and has the little peach bow tied around holding it in place. I again fussy cut the birdcages and popped them up. The upper right corner has the lace tab and three large vintage pearls.

Other views -

That's it for this set of cards. So glad that you took the time to stop by and have a look and leave your comment. Oh, I want to let you know that there is a big surprise coming up for you all for sometime toward the end of July, so look out for it!

Thank you for your time and happy crafting!

Christmas Card Challenge #32 - Stockings

It's time for another Christmas Card Challenge! Challenge #32 is about using "stocking/s" on the card. Of course the first thing you think of using is a stamp, a die, or designer paper with stockings on it. But how to make it a little different than your first thought, is the question. So I thought of using the negative die cut to create the shape of the stockings on my card.

The stocking dies are My Favorite Things Die-Namics "Stocking Trio". And, the stamp is from Woodware Craft Collection "Heartfelt Christmas Wish".

In the next photo you can perhaps see better the space between the striped paper and the white stocking negative front.

To bring the vertical stripe effect to balance the left side with the right, I added a little gold organza ribbon tied into a knot. All in all, a very easy card to make. Hope you'll join us at the Christmas Card Challenge this week, and remember if you aren't in the mood for creating a "stocking" card you can still participate in the challenge and make any Christmas card you'd like. Check out the other DT cards for this weeks challenge, too.

Christmas Card Challenge #31 - Paper Piecing

Hello everyone!

Sorry to be posting this a little late, but with my daughter and her family coming for a visit from Calgary a day earlier thn expected, I just kind of forgot to schedule this post in time for this morning.

This week at Christmas Card Challenge #31 we are paper piecing! I love the look of paper piecing but don't do it often enough and was glad for the chance to be challenged with this technique for the challenge. What I like about the CCC challenges is that you don't have to create a card using the technique or inspiration given each week as long as you make a Christmas card. But for me the fun is in the challenge. So here is my card for the paper piecing challenge.

I just love this Stampavie "Mice Under the Mistletoe" stamp!  I used my Spectrum Noir markers to colour three layers for the mice, and to cut out the rug and their clothes from the Simple Stories "Handmade Holiday" 6 x 6 pad. The Spectrum Noir markers are also used to create a little more depth on the paper pierced clothes. I combined the use of MFT "Rounded Banners" and Spellbinder's Labels Twenty for the red matting of the shortened "Rounded Banners" used on the white.

I'm writing this while one of my grand-daughter sleeps a few feet away from me. Grandchildren are so wonderful to have, and I wish they lived closer to me, or I to them.

Thank you so much for checking out my DT inspirational card for Christmas Card Challenge #31.
You can also check out the other DT challenge submissions on their blogs below.

"My Summer Days" Mini - made with library cards

-Library cards, clear plastic, washi tape, a corner punch, some ribbon & flowers make a really cute mini!

I have something fun to show you today. What do you get when you have a bunch of library cards to use up, some clear plastic sheets, some fun patterned washi tape, a few flowers, and some old paper to use, all thrown into the ring to use?

This!

A cute little mini!

Perfect to carry in your purse, back pack, car, etc. and ready to use when the moment strikes. This mini measures 5 1/8" W x 3 1/4" H with the library cards used for pages at 5" W x 3" H. I won't show you a photo of each page, but I will show you a few additional photos below, and then there is a short video that shows more details as I explain about the mini created.

A fun thing to add to this project might be a journaling pen attached to a ribbon and stuck in the coil!

Here is the video walk through for you.

Oh, I almost forgot to let you know that to bind the mini, I used a Zutter Bind-It-All and 3/4" spiral binding.

Thank you for letting me share this fun project with you. Are you ready to gather a bunch of odds and ends together and make your own Summer Days mini now? Have fun!
