One Page Wonders #2

-I think this is my favorite one of the three

I'm keeping this brief for you today. This layout is mainly yellow. At this time of year it is a colour I like after the cold days of winter because it makes me feel warm. I'm craving warmth and sunshine. Lol, then when it gets too warm I complain.

This took a lot of working inking all the paper edges...even the little banner strips! Whew, that took some time, but I love the way it looks.

Here are a few detail close ups.

The cards that are a part of this collection (Pink Paislee Nantucket) I ended up cropping and using throughout all three of the layouts, as you see I've done above and with the other two layouts.

Well, do you think it was worth all that inking? I did it while watching a Hallmark movie online, so it wasn't so drawn out of a job to do. Oh, I used Tim Holtz Distress ink pad Pumice Stone for that job in case you are wondering.

Thank you for stopping by, and happy crafting !

Guest Designer For Scrapbooker's Playing in Paradise |Challenge #50

I am honoured and excited to be invited as a Guest Designer for Challenge #50 at Scrapbooker's Paradise Playing in Paradise.  I chose to go with the colours of this challenge. When the colours were sent to me I knew right away I had to make a card using them for an elderly lady I know that just came out of the hospital after 3 weeks of being there. She just loves these colours! She also likes frou-frou stuff, so that's what I tried to create for her.

In this first photo I have it leaning up against the back so that you can see the tiny stamped images in the cut out ovals better than when free standing as we normally take photos of cards.

Here it is free standing so you can see the oval cut-outs at the bottom.

And here is a close-up.

A lot of Liquid Pearl was used as I know the receiver will love it. In a future project, I may try the cut outs at the bottom again and weave ribbon through them.

I hope that you will check out the challenge and join in on the fun here. Happy crafting!

Coming Soon To Scrapbookers - That Special Gift Class

Well everyone, this will be my last class before moving to Victoria, BC.

A special gift box with a matching card, will be sure to let a special person know how much they mean to you when they receive this unique gift wrapped set.  (The box and the card are supposed to be the same color, but the flash changed the look)

We'll cut and layer stamped flowers, Scor a mutli-lined border and ink distress it. The leaves too, will be inked around the edges and we'll use a beautiful Martha Stewart border punch. Be prepares for a lot of detail cutting with your detail scissors and using the Scor Pal to construct the beautiful box set.

Coming Soon To Scrapbookers - Hearts & Love Card Class

With Valentines fast approaching we think of those special people in our lives that we love and want to let them know what they mean to us. With that in mind I will be teaching a few techniques in the "Hearts & Love" card class that may be new to you. So to my Calgary followers, the class will be held at the South Scrapbookers Paradise store (403-253-4799), in Macleod Plazza, #20 - 9250 Macleod Trail South on Thursday, January 13th from 5:50 pm to 8:10 pm.

These are the three cards that we will be making in class.

The techniques included in the class will be - stamping on velum, a glitter stamping technique that will keep the glitter from falling off your card (yes - you can use glitter on stamped images/text!), paper piercing and hand stitching, stamp on embossed paper so that only the raised embossed surface is stamped on, and use Spellbinders to make a shaped card.

I look forward to seeing you in class as we have fun creating these varied style cards for Valentines.

Coming Soon to Scrapbookers Paradise - HOLIDAY GATHERING

For my Calgarian followers, I have another class coming up at the South Scrapbookers Paradise store here in Calgary at the Mcleod Plaza, #20 - 9250 Macleod Trail S. on  Thursday, December 16th. There are still a couple of openings if anyone is interested!

Our project is geared toward the parties and gatherings that we so love at this time of the year.

Here is a close up of each individual item.

The invitation

The place setting card (sorry for the blurriness of the image)

The treat bag

And the lastly, the Cracker

Hope to see you there. Due to the project there will be only a total of 9 openings for this class, rather than the usual 12.

Coming Soon to Scarpbookers Paradise - CHRISTMAS SNOWFLAKE

For those of you that live in or near Calgary, my next class is being held on Monday, December 13th, and there still are a couple of openings. So if you've signed up and wish for a friend to join you, there's room. Or, if you haven't signed up yet, just call the South Scrapbookers store to register.

This is the project we will be working on. This could be a gift set of a Christmas Tree ornament and matching card.

Here is the side view of the Snowflake Ornament

These snowflake ornaments are made using an empty ribbon spool, Spelbinders Fleur de Lis Pendant, and a scoring board. Lots of scoring and folding, and a lot of fun to watch the transformation as you put it together.Once you've made this Snowflake, you can make as many as you like for your tree or as gifts for family and friends in a variety of colors!

See you there!

For those of you that don't live in this area I will post a link to a tutorial for you once the class is completed and include more photos.

Upcoming Scrapbookers Class - Jazz It Up Holiday Cards

Hello Calgarians! I have another class coming up at the South Scrapbookers Paradise store at Macleod Plaza #20, 9250 Macleod Trail S.on  Monday, November the 22nd, from 5:50pm til 8:10pm. There are still a couple of openings if anyone is interested!

Here are the cards we'll be making.

We'll be ink blending and using "Liquid Pearls again; using Spellbinders Nestabilities Inverted Scallop Circles and Standard Circles with Stickles and glitter pens; as well as learning a new technique of clear heat embossing and adding glitter. This technique is great as the glitter hardly comes off at all as in other methods! And you can use your stamps! We always have fun in our classes and would love to see you there.

Happy crafting everyone!

Red, Green & Gold - Scrapbookers Class

Traditional Christmas colors in three different styles was the theme for this class held yesterday, November 18th.
A vintage, traditional, and CAS card all in green, red and gold!

We created an antique cracked glass look with UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) for the vintage card. After putting on 3 layers we let it harden and cracked the UTEE and rubbing in Versa Fine Vintage Sepia ink to darken the cracks. In class we glued three tiny little gold bells on the knot of the bow. They aren't pictured here in the photo as the card was made at a time earlier when I couldn't find such a commodity anywhere. Gold foil for every layer, and Spellbinders Labels Eight was used for the frame.

With the more traditional Poinsettia card we heat embossed the Hero Arts Classic Holly stamp with gold embossing powder adding the red pearls to the berries. The poinsettia we stamped three times, cutting each layer smaller working to the center of the flower. Then a gold gel pen is used to go over some of the stamped lines of the image. Each layer is pop-dotted as seen below. (Sorry about the blurry image)
The last card is what I called a CAS card. It may not be a true CAS, but in comparison to the others I felt it to be so.
We used a Christmas ornament Cuttlebug folder to emboss on the left side, and used Spellbinders Shapeabilities Tag Shape 3 (Which I don't think they sell any more since I couldn't find it on their site. They do however, have the Standard Tags that could easily be substituted). We used Fiskars Apron Lace border punchfor the narrow gold strip peaking out from under the red patterned paper. The shear gold ribbon is tied in a double bow with the long tails carefully curled carefully using closed scissors.

Hope you are having a great day and will find the time to have some fun creating your own Christmas cards.

Can't Have Enough Christmas Variety- Scrapbookers Class

Another successful class! This one was held on November 9th. We Heat embossed on foil, using inks as a major toll created a no-layers card, and used Liquid Pearls for the first time in class! (the link goes to the new formula, where we used the older version. I can hardly wait to see what the difference is with the new formulation!)
On the "Peace" card with the Wisemen, we used Tim Holtz Distress ink pads in Tumbled Glass and Stormy Sky to create the colored strip behind the Wisemen Stamp from Cornish Heritage Rubber Stamps who are, unfortunately, no longer in business.

Heat embossing on foil is a challenge. But, with some tips it is possible. Be sure to use an anti-static powder, like the "Stamp Perfect Printing Pouch" before stamping, and be sure that you use a low heat embossing gun like Ranger's Heat-It Craft tool. Your foil is less likely to bubble from the heat of a heat embossing gun with this tool; plus, it's quieter too.

The last card, I like to call "Old World Spanish Wealth" influenced. We all had fun using the Liquid Pearls! This card later inspired a Scrapbook page that I designed for a Christmas 5 x 7 family Christmas photo. Will be posting that later. The papers for this card are from Teresa Collins Noel series.

Click on the photo if you want a closer look. Hope you have fun trying out some of the techniques!

Christmas Unique - Scrapbookers Class

I haven't had internet for a while and was therefore unable to make my postings. But I'm now reconnected! And boy, I don't like being without the internet! Until you have to do without something for a while you don't realize how much value it is to you and how much you use it everyday. Well. let's see if I can play catch up for you.

October 28th I taught this class of three cards. It turned out to be a very popular class, and we had to create a second class for this set of cards! This was the first time this happened to me. The second class was held November 13th.

This star shaped card is a copy, with some little changes, from Sankari Wegman's blog. I tried to find the direct link to this card but was unable to find it for you.

I used the "Learning Curve" Cricut cartridge to cut out the stars. The red, and largest, was cut out at 6".The Spellbinders Inverted Scallop circle and Standard circles were used for the center circles. The snowflakes were cut on the Cricut using the "Winter Woodland" cartridge. And I loved using the gold 'Liquid Pearls'! (We used the old formula - the link goes to their new product) Sankari uses them a lot on her bright, cheerful designs, and I have started using them a little more since seeing her creative works.

Everyone in the class loved making this card.

This next card uses a technique (Nestabilities- Images Beyond the Border) that I found on Gina K's blog. Click here to view the tutorial.

When creating this card I wondered to my self if it was possible to Heat emboss on ribbon. I tried it. And it worked on my first try! In class we discussed all the different things this technique could be used for. It was great to hear the class use their creative juices once the idea was presented to them.

This next card I thought would be fun to use non-traditional colors for a Christmas card. Plus, it's a 'flip card'. To see how to make a flip card click here. The tutorial is based on an A2 sized card. I wanted ours to be larger and adjusted the flip card to an A7 size (6 1/2" x 5"). Sorry about the blurry image.
This was another favorite in the class. I'm going to have to take some better photos of this card so that you may see it open and closed. I had created a diagram for the class participants that included the new measurements etc., but am having difficulty in posting it on the blog. Will have to investigate.

In an effort to catch up on my postings I'm not going to include all the materials and tools used, but will include them in the descriptions. You'll be busy viewing and reading them all. Hope that you are all happily crafting for your Christmas!

Upcoming Scrapbookers Paradise Class - October 12th

These are the three projects we will be working on next week. We are making a Christmas Drawer Box that will hold A7 cards made in this class and future Christmas card classes. With the dark blue card we will be learning the Double Emboss technique, and the light blue/silver card we will actually make the background from a plain light gray/blue cardstock. This is a lot of fun!
So to all my Calgary students, there are still 3 spots left in this class at the South Scrapbookers Paradise!
Have a closer look with these cropped close ups of each.

Create own paper background

See you in class! Happy creating everyone.

Upcoming Scrapbookers Paradise Class

It's time for Fall and Thanksgiving cards!
Thursday, September 16th is my next Scrapbookers class. We will be making three Thanksgiving cards that involve - a lot of ink distressing, dry brush inking technique, Spellbinders tracing for a narrow framed mat for the same die cut, Spellbinders die cut within a die cut with recessed image, cutting a Spellbinders die shape with the 'old school' border cutting scissors, border punching, Cuttlebug and Spellbinders embossing, and more!
I must give credit for the beautiful brown and peach Thanksgiving card you see, laying flat, to Maile Belles for the design and colors I used. Her card was designed as a Wedding card, however, but I thought her design would lend itself well to a more contemporary - less rustic and more feminine, non-traditional Thanksgiving card.
See all of you that have signed up for the class Thursday evening! There is still a couple of openings remaining; so if you have a friend or relative that may wish to come along with you, have them register at Scrapbookers.(this is for 'Calgarians')

For a closer look at each card, click for a better view.

Time For A Quick Post and My Upcoming Punch Class

Just wanting to quickly share a little something with you today. I thought I would post the name tag I made for myself for the Calgary Market Fair we participated at on August 28th. We each made one for this event, but not all of us took a picture of our creations. Mine measures 3 1/2"W x 5 1/2" H, and as you can see I used a Spellbinders Tag Shape 3 die and the smaller Shapeabilities Fleur De Lis Pendant.

The paper rose I took from jars of flowers I've made with scraps. You can check out how to make them here. You can also check out one of the sets of cards I've made in the past here.

The 1/2" hole at the top, in case you are wondering, is where you can catch the fabric of your top with a safety pin from the front holding the name tag in place. I'm hoping that Stefanie will post her beautiful name tag. Hint, hint. ;)

I'll have to take a picture of my jars of flowers and punched and die cut leaves so that you can see what I do with some of my scraps.

I'm preparing for my first Fall class of the season on Sept. 8th, but soon after that will post some more of the "Card Frenzy" creations for you. The class I'll be teaching will be about using punches in different creative ways, such as using the round corner punch to make scalloped edged strips, with a variety of ways to use Martha Stewart corner punches. Here is a photo of the three cards we will be making in class Wednesday night.

Hope that you all had a great weekend, and that you'll have fun crafting at least a couple times this week. Don't forget about ATC's Glimmer Challenge 3! We'd love to see your entry, and you just might win that prize!

Easel Card and Twist-top Easter Box

This is the Easter Gift Set that I came up with for one of my classes at Scrapbookers Paradise.

In the past few months I have come to really love the Cuttlebug and all the possibilities using folders, dies and of course Spellbinders. So for this project I of course just had to focus on the things we can do using the Cuttlebug. I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder for the easel card as well as the Spellbinders Labels Four and Oval dies, which are also used for the Twist Top Box.
I did not have an Easter stamp for the card, hence the "Happy Day" stamp I used and heat embossed.

Next is the close up of the Twist Top Box. The inspiration for this box is a simplified version of Becca Feeken's beautiful and elaborate design
In the creation of this box, I had to keep in mind that the class would include all levels of experience, hence the simplified version of Becca's creation. These boxes are great fun to make. Thank you Becca for sharing. The students in my class loved your Twist Top Box idea.
