Scrap Addicts Edmonton Sweet Sentiments Double Layout

Hello everyone!

In case you missed my big announcement, I shared some exciting news about being asked to be a Guest Instructor for Scrap Addicts in Edmonton, Alberta for an event they are having in February! I was asked to work with Graphic 45's newest collections, Couture and Sweet Sentiments. Can you imagine... to be asked to create classes using the paper of your favorite company!! They must have a lot of Graphic 45 fans to make that request. Graphic 45 fans of Edmonton, here I come! (If you'd like to check out Scrap Addicts in Edmonton's blog, click here.)

I'm sure you want to see the layout I created for this event class.

This layout hides well the fact that there are 17 layers! There is something out of balance with this layout, and I think I figured it out. Sometimes, you don't see things until you think you've finished and taken a gazillion pictures! So I will make a few slight changes to rectify it.

Aren't the colors just so beautiful?

To save time at the event class I didn't ink all the paper edges. I did use Tim Holtz Vintage Photo, lightly on the banner strips, the stamp cut outs, and around all the fussy cutting edges, but the rest is left clean.

Let's look at each side of the layout. First the left side. This is the one where the balance is off. I should have positioned the card with the young girl and the deer differently. It breaks the nice flow to the flowers onto the next page too much. It just needs to be tucked in more and at a different angle.

Since I used photos from over the past two years where I'm teaching classes, the colors were all over the spectrum, so I decided to print them in B&W and that way they didn't clash with the colours of the beautiful paper.

Let's have a closer look at the right side of the layout, too.

Just love those two darling little girls! Thought they'd work fine with the theme of the layout. In this photo you can see that one of the strips I notched it differently from the others. I thought I might try the Envelope Punch board from We R Memory Keepers, but I decided it wasn't as fast as I thought it would be and went back to the scissors.

The next few photos are close ups to show some details closer up.

In these next photos you can get a better idea of the all the layers and the fussy cutting dimension & layers.

Exciting News & Sweet Sentiments Teaser

Hello everyone!

I have some exciting news to share with you today! A couple of months ago I was asked to be a Guest Instructor for Scrap Addicts in Edmonton, Alberta for an event they are having in February! It's on my birthday too, so that will be a fun thing to be doing on that day. I was asked to work with Graphic 45's newest collections, Couture and Sweet Sentiments. Since the announcement hasn't officially been made, I will only be showing you some teaser photos. I'll post the actual project soon though, so watch for it.

Frame Flip Album

-Another Stay-At-Home Retreat class for April

It's time for another mini-album. Well, not too mini as it measures 10"w x 7 1/2"H, but it's a fun and easy one to make. What I love about this one is that it stands on its own and with a flip of a tab stand you can display it closed or open ready to flip through. Plus, at any time you can add additional pages!

So above is what the end result is, and this is what we start with.

This was part of Kaisercraft's Beyond the Page collection, but is no longer available. I turned it horizontally to prop it up, took out the large panel in the center of the cover, and covered most of the slit in the back cover leaving about 1 1/8" in the center.

 Lets have a look at a couple more photos.

In this next view, if you look closely you can see that there are some pages between the MDF front and back covers.

Maybe in this section of the photo you can see it better.

The flowers are punched from the small and medium Retro Flower punch from EK Success with the tiny butterflies punched from a tiny punch from the same company, and the larger ones with Martha Stewart's Butterfly punch. The leafy branches are punched using Martha Stewart's Branch 2 punch. And Avocado Liquid Pearls used in the flower centers.

I have made a very quick video for you see the details of the framed flip album. You'll have to excuse a few verbal mistakes. There was no time to remake the video so I had to leave it as it is.

Happy Birthday to a Dear Friend

-someone very special

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a terrific weekend.

Today is the birthday of a very dear friend of mine, and of course I had to make her a birthday card! She takes many of my classes, so instead of going to my bin of already made cards, I created a special card just for her. I have so many scraps, that it was my first 'go to' for paper. I pulled out several leftovers from previous Graphic 45 classes, plus some other paper I can't recall. I came up with this card for her and want to share it with you.

I fussy cut some scraps to make up the rose arrangement on the card. Hopefully you can see the little drops of Glossy Accents everywhere, as dew drops.

In this photo you can better see that I even filled the inside of the card. Because I wrote in it before taking the photos, I didn't take shots of the interior of the card.

In this shot you better see the embossing (Spellbiders M-Bossibilities Enchanted) on the front.

This final shot shows the layers created with dimensionals. My friend loves layers and dimension on her cards even more than I do.

5 Spring Vintage Cards

-For Scrapbook Parade's April 2013 Stay-At-Home Retreat

I'm thinking that while the Scrapbook Parade hosts the Retreat, we that are staying home are going to have some great fun too. Vintage cards are a favorite here in Victoria, so we had to create a Spring Vintage card class. We are using Authentique's Seasons: Spring 6 x 6 pad to create the 5 cards.

Let's view them left to right, shall we.

This first one I used my Cricut and the Heritage cartridge to cut the fence and the lamp post. The flowers are punched using Paper Shapers Daisy and Retro Flower small punches. The envelope flap is border punched using Martha Stewart's Swirling Lace set and has a magnet in it to hold it shut and then exposing more to the sentiment stamped on the flap.

Next the flap is open.

A lot of Liquid Pearls Platinum is used on most of the cards.

Did some paper tearing for this one, and again used the Circut Heritage cartridge to cut out the bird. Die-Namics Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo (the larger of the duo) is used here and the daisy punch again.

Next is a horizontal card. The only one this time.

You'll recognize the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch here. I attached the lace and then added the Liquid Pearls Platinum along it.

Fussing cutting here using the umbrella and banner from the paper. I wove some embroidery floss in the holes of the Die-Namics Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo (the smaller of the duo). I tied two bows to make it fuller since the ribbon is only 3/8".

And for last -

I curled the corners of the paper for this one and continued with more lace, liquid pearls, and daisy punched flowers.

Shaped Easter Cards

-Getting away from four straight edges

In November I taught a class for "Shaped Christmas Cards" and it was so well received that it was requested we do something like that again. So, for Easter, I thought it would be fun to make cards that once again steered away from mostly straight edges.

It's late, so I'm just going to post all the individual card photos with their detail photos and keep the text to a minimum at this time.

March Monochromatic

 - Easter's early this year. Does that mean we'll have an early Spring, I wonder?

With Easter being in March this year, I thought it would be fun to make Easter cards in our March Monochromatic card class. Well, three of the four are. The other is a thank you card. So the colours chosen for this monochromatic class are of course spring colours!

Pretty colours, right? Let's have a closer look at them, shall we. We'll start, first, with the non-Easter card, the yellow "Thank You" card.

I used two different sized doilies under the fan folded medallion/rosette. For the first time, I used Memory Box's Dies-Script "Thanks". The punch is Martha Stewart's Floral Vine Deep Edge Punch.

OK. So now come the three Easter Cards. The light green one is one that made me think of my grandchildren as I made it. Not that an adult wouldn't enjoy it...I would.

I just think the bunnies are so sweet. I hesitated using the designer paper as the the little flowers had blue in them, and I added the pink on the bunny feet, ears, nose and cheeks. But I think the overall colour is still a nice spring green.

Next lets look the CAS pink card.

This white and pink is beautiful and would do well for any occasion, such as birthday, wedding, baby girl, etc. I seldom use 'bling', but in this case, I think it works rather well. I used Spellbinders Nestabilities labels three and twenty-three.

 And for last, the spring blue.

 I had an interesting experience in the embellishing of this card. I wanted to use some of the 1/4" organza ribbon that the store recently stocked up on in a variety of beautiful colors, and tried several ideas, not one of them quite right, and my last effort ending up ruining the 3 yards of ribbon I had, without any left to try again. So I decided that was a sign that the card needed no further embellishing and left it as it was. what a waste of an hour and a half!

I used Martha Stewarts Embroidery Deep Edge punch and Fiskar's Apron Lace border punch, along with Spellbinders Classic Ovals (small & large). I stamped with Flourishes Lace Edges and heat embossed them, followed by fussy cutting them and pacing one at the top and one at the bottom of the sentiment oval with a large half pearl. The background was dry embossed using Spelbinders M-Bossabilities embossing folder Splendid and then used White Opal Liquid Pearls in the center of each daisy as well as along the blue strip over the lace borders.
