Bold Red With Other Colours

- Colour Series class where we focus on a colour and use other colours to complement it.

Today I'm showing you some pretty bold colours complementing a bold red in these cards. There are only fours cards for this particular Colour Series class as we have a lot of work to cover in three hours for these four cards. Usually I have five to six cards.

This first one is a favorite colour combination, for most, when it comes to red. I just changed the dynamics a bit.

These poppies are stamped onto Bazzill Brick using MFT Inspired By Flower Set 3. And the leaves onto a green I can't recall as it was stamped on scraps. All are fussy cut out, which my class will moan over, and the foremost one is even built up with a couple of layers. I used a white gel pen to go around the edge of the black and make it pop. The Poppy centers are filled with dots using Enamel Accents in black.

This photo shows the layering of the flowers and leaves. Oh, and the sentiment is heat embossed in white.

This next card is very basic, but we are making the rosettes on this card from scratch using 5 flowers punched with a flower punch for each of the two roses, and a single flower for the bud.

I used MFT Die-Namics Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo, with the larger one in red, and the smaller for the sentiment also from MFT called Lisa Johnson's Designs Gift Card Greetings II. The beautiful patterned paper is from Basic Grey-True Love-Love's Garden.

Because I cropped a small section of the photo, it is a bit grainy, but you can see the rosette and the leaves. I used Martha Stewart's Rose Leaf punch and inked the edges with VersaMagic Oasis Green.

The third card is a fun one to make because you can customize the number die cut in the tag.

The dotted paper is from Echo Park-Sunshine-Sunshine Words. The dies used for this card are all from MFT. Die-Namics Rounded Banner STAX, and High-Rise Numbers. The Bazzill Brick I embossed using Spellbinders M-Bossabillities Enchanted. I used one of my favorite ribbons, Crepe, to create what looks like a bow, but in reality is a series of loops at differing angles and lengths attached to a little strip of cardstock covered with Scor tape from both sides. One side to attach the ribbon, the other to attach to the card.

For the final card, I went with yellow to go with the red making this a bright, cheerful and warm card.

Once again I turned to MFT stamps using Clearly Sentimental Gift Card Greetings and ColorBox Cranberry ink, and VersaColor White. The faux stitching is done with a black gelly pen.

Christmas Club 2013 - April Class

-This class is so much fun from month to month

It is time once again to post the Christmas cards we'll be making for the Christmas Club class in April. We have a couple of simple cards, a couple of non-traditional colours, and some more loaded with embellishment.

I had a lot of fun using the MFT Die-Namics Winter Wreath for this first card.

It's also a bonus to have that little bow to die cut if you don't want to tie a real little bow.

For this next non-traditional colour card I used a stamp that I heat embossed with white and then cut out.

I then adhered it to red and cut around the tree shape I had cut from the blue to give it a narrow red border. With Star Dust Stickles I coloured over the white embossing to give it some Christmas glitter.

Next up, and a little more traditional, I used some lovely Jolee's Boutique dimensional Poinsettia stickers and one of my favorite type of ribbons - Crepe ribbon.

I used an old Tim Holtz Christmas stamp with VersaFine Vintage Sepia ink and an old Spellbinders square die.

For another and more dramatic non-traditional colour for a Christmas card I have this one to show you.

This one has a few more techniques involved in it's creation. The application of the apricot or paprika coloured glitter in three different ways, is a lot of fun. The MFT Die-namics Decorative Circle Tag STAX is used here to create the three ornaments. And again I used my favorite Crepe ribbon in brown this time. Spellbinders Labels Eight is used to create the frame.

Here you can see that I left the ornaments hanging without attaching them. It makes the card more fun when something moves on it.

The final card is very easy to put together.

You can't tell in from the photo that I applied Glossy Accents onto the two large Poinsettias, and all of the Holly Berries on the paper. I want to focus on the beautiful paper for this card so that is why I kept it simple and worked and accenting parts of it. it look much more beautiful in real life. The side chevron pattern yous see is a strip of washi tape with the Poinsettia paper matted on green popped up on the front of the card.

Welcome Baby: Baby Shower Invites

I had to whip up 50 or so baby invites in a day and this is what I came up with:

Beginners Scrapbooking II

-the second beginners class with a double page layout

It's about time I posted this! In January I taught a Beginners Scrapbooking class were we created a simple single page layout. This post is about the second class held in February, were we discussed more about design, elements of scrap booking, how to use paper as part of your design, and how to tell a story. We then created this very simple two page layout.

I chose this colour combination because of my youngest daughter in the photos. She is a welder, and for her 24th birthday last summer she was gifted this event. I have several photos giving many more details to this occasion, but I challenged myself to try and tell the story in just four. After all that was part of the class instruction.

I love the first photo here where she's hamming it up a bit. She has a wonderful sense of humor. She has a little fear of heights and does a lot of things to overcome it. This I thought was truly amazing for her to be able to do. I certainly wouldn't, not even in my younger days. You can see the slight trepidation in the second photo, to joy in the third, and happiness in her achievement in the fourth.

Happy Birthday to a Dear Friend

-someone very special

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a terrific weekend.

Today is the birthday of a very dear friend of mine, and of course I had to make her a birthday card! She takes many of my classes, so instead of going to my bin of already made cards, I created a special card just for her. I have so many scraps, that it was my first 'go to' for paper. I pulled out several leftovers from previous Graphic 45 classes, plus some other paper I can't recall. I came up with this card for her and want to share it with you.

I fussy cut some scraps to make up the rose arrangement on the card. Hopefully you can see the little drops of Glossy Accents everywhere, as dew drops.

In this photo you can better see that I even filled the inside of the card. Because I wrote in it before taking the photos, I didn't take shots of the interior of the card.

In this shot you better see the embossing (Spellbiders M-Bossibilities Enchanted) on the front.

This final shot shows the layers created with dimensionals. My friend loves layers and dimension on her cards even more than I do.

Graphic 45 Design Team 2013 Audition

-pursuing a wonderful dream

Hello fellow papercrafters, blog friends, and Graphic 45!

I've been having so much fun scrapbooking, cardmaking, and creating projects since the summer of 2009, and it was only about 2 1/2 years ago that I came across Graphic 45. I fell in love, and have been a fan ever since. Graphic 45 papers are such an inspiration and I've been fortunate to have created a few projects to teach a class here and there using some of those beautiful collections.

This post is a Graphic 45 audition. That's right, I'm applying for a DT position for this wonderfully inspired company. All my friends have been encouraging me as soon as they saw the posting for this DT call. Thank you so much for believing in me and encouraging me. I was already seriously thinking of it. Thank you all.

One of the requirements for the audition is to post on our blog 6 of our projects. So here are the projects.

I'll begin with cards made using Graphic 45's 'The Olde Curiosity Shoppe'. I created 10 cards using the 8 x 8 pad and had to divide them into two classes in order to make all the cards. The two photos you see next display the 10 cards.

One of these cards was featured on a Graphic 45 post in March of 2012, entitled "A Celebration of Cards with Graphic45: Day 3!" which is the next photo. I can't begin to tell you how excited I was that day.

My 2nd project I wish to share with you is crafted using the 'Travelogue' 8 x 8 collection and a whole lot of cardstock. I used a paper mache suitcase, covered it, and created a mini-album to fit inside.

For the 3rd project of this audition, I would like to share with you one of my favorites. This one was created using 'A Ladies Diary' 8 x 8. It is another mini, but it is much smaller and is hidden inside a canvas book-like casing.

I think for the 4th project I'd like to show you 3 of the 5 projects put together using the gorgeous 'Bird Song' collection of papers in both the 8 x 8 and 12 x 12. It was a challenge for me to pick three out of the five, but decided to use the more original ideas. So the first one will be the fan album.

I've chosen the next two photos where the fan is open all the way to show all the pages of the fan from the front...

...and from the back.

Each page is a large pocket that holds a fan shaped tag and can hold more embellished pages for journaling and photos. More of the details can be seen on the original post, here along with my first actual video. (I plan to get better at making videos)

My 5th project is the tray made from black chipboard to house three of the Bird Song projects made in these classes. It is constructed with many layers for strength and substance.

The last, and 6th project for this audition, is a Shadow Box.

This project was also featured on the Graphic 45 blog in December 2012 entitled 'Stunning Ideas & Inspiration From The G45 Ning Gallery!'.  Let me tell you that a second feature at Graphic 45 doesn't make the excitement any less than the first time. ;)  There are a few more close ups you may view on the original post, here.

A bday card made for an artistic friend:

My friend loves greys and purple so I created a gray canvas-type card.

One Page Wonders - #3

-the final of the three for this class. Lots of poppies!

This layout also has a lot of inking of paper edges. I don't always like doing it, but with these papers and layouts, I was either in mood for it or thought it added to the overall look of the layout.

I have a lot of cut and prepared flowers left now. Somehow I thought I would use more I guess, but I'm glad I have them because I can use them on cards or another layout in the future.

I popped some of them up to try and get the effect of the photo being nested in amongst the poppies.

I inked and blended the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Pumice Stone.
