Stamping Vacation DT: Embellish It Challenge

Stamping Vacation's Embellish It Challenge this month is to use brackets. Since this has to be an embellishment and not just a stamp, I went through all my chipboard and grungeboard. I finally found the size I was looking for in my Bazzill Basics Chipboard: Marguerita Alpha pack (in Raven).

I had originally intended to use Tim Holtz Crackle Paint on them but it didn't go with the look of my card. So I applied black rhinestones instead. Looks so cool!

I actually stamped the black card base with Damask Designs and Versamark Dazzle: Frost ink, but it wasn't very discernible. So I changed tacks and used my Giga Guidelines impression plate instead. It still has that bit of sparkle which looks neat.

The sentiment uses stamps from Big & Bold Wishes and uses a little flourish from Waltzingmouse Stamp's Very Vintage Labels #4 stamp set. The Nesties I used were Mega Ovals and Mega Classic Scalloped Ovals.

Fall Birthdays

A coworker requested a fall-themed birthday card for a dear friend. I created two from which she can pick as I will just use the other one for my mother-in-law's bday coming up.

It's rather thick for mailing with the buttons but it's still possible. Or perhaps her friend lives locally... ;)

This card also goes along with Stamping Vacation's Color Combo Challenge this month: caramel, pumpkin and sage.

The other card was created with the obvious influence of Debbie Olsen's card here. Mine is definitely not as exciting without all that bling, but I really like the added touch of Glossy Accents on the pumpkins! My card size is a touch too big, though.

Here's a closeup on the pumpkins. The picture is blurry but you can get a good sense of the shine (Glossy Accents - pumpkins; clear embossing powder - basket).

This was my very first attempt with Copic airbrush! I used B0000 (a VERY pale blue) behind the pumpkin basket (I used masking to preserve the coloring area). I meant to get only a burst of blue behind the basket area, but instead covered the whole background, minus the border where I kept the Spellbinder die. Not to worry, it's barely discernible anyway. ;)

Using an A2 Terracotta Tile card base, I inked the edges using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Vintage Photo. The next layer is Dark Chocolate and then Simply Chartreuse, which was inked with Rusty Hinge. I sewed the burlap to these layers (one or both, I can't remember specifically) and then added the felt leaves on which I sewed the "veins." I layered Dark Chocolate, Terracotta Tile and Simply Chartreuse buttons and tied them with Jute twine. I glue-gunned the embellishment to the front of the leaves. The sentiment was stamped on Kraft cardstock with Dark Chocolate and Terracotta Tile ink and popped up on top.

Using a 5.5" square Terracotta Tile card base, I embossed the largest Spellbinders Labels 16 on the front. I die cut the next smaller size on Rustic White cardstock. I stamped the basket and pumpkins in Rich Cocoa Memento ink (Copic-friendly) and also stamped it on scrap paper to mask for the airbrushing. Leaving the Spellbinders die in place to keep the embossed border clean, I attempted to Copic airbrush a bit of blue background. I removed the mask, did my Copic coloring and then clear heat embossed the basket on Dark Chocolate cardstock. I cut this out and adhered it over top of the stamped basket image. There's a bit of Copic on the handles and rim of the basket as well. I also Copic-ed and cut out the additional pumpkins, popping them up over the basket. Once this was completely assembled, I used my Glossy Accents on the the pumpkins and stems, sparing the leaves. The leaves were done using Terracotta Tile and New Leaf w/Dk Chocolate colors primarily, but once I decided to use Simply Chartreuse satin ribbon, I tried coloring over the New Leaf with Simply Chartreuse colors. Not too successfully, but it's not a big deal. This whole piece was popped up within the embossed area. The sentiment was stamped in Dark Chocolate ink and written over with Chocolate Spica pen. Perhaps I'll go back and add some extra bling but it's really just a "simple" card.

2S4Y Challenge 62 - Stacey's Sketch - Sabrina

Now for Stacey's bonus sketch for 2S4Y Challenge 62. This is the perfect sketch to use in creating my 3rd child, 2nd daughter's, 28th birthday card. Her birthday isn't until Dec.17th, but between this sketch and wanting to create her card before getting into the Christmas project mode, I now have it done!

She loves sparkle and glitz; a bit of Victorian; butterflies, which I didn't include this time; soft feminine colors; and flowers. So I tried to create a card from this sketch keeping those things she likes in mind.

So without further dialogue, this is my entry for Stacey's sketch.

The one unfortunate thing is that in all of the photos the cream cardstock pieces are reflecting pink and do not look cream colored. Also, the sparkle of glitter is around the cream dots on the blue paper doesn't show up as well in the photos, because it's really sparkly. I also found that spraying the glitter paper with hairspray helped to keep as much of the glitter from falling off, This was a tip suggest by Stefanie who is part of our ATC blog team. It does help.

The flowers, I made with scrap paper (not the heavy weight for card-making and crafting, but of 12 x 12 paper that is of standard paper thickness). I actually have jars filled with these flowers in various colors, and an assortment of leaves, too. It's a great way to use up those thin paper scraps. This is something I can do when watching a movie or favorite TV Show. The leaves and cedar-like twigs where cut with Martha Stewart punches.

Stamps used - Hero Arts Old Letter Writing, which I heat embossed with white powder,  and Papertrey Ink - Fillable Frames Set #4 Stamp Set, I used for the Sentiment on half of a Labels 16 die cut. I found that even score tape had a difficult time adhering well enough to the glitter paper as it was easy to take off when I realized I hadn't yet attached the ribbon, and had to use white pearl brads to ensure the layers would not start to come off with passing of time.

2S4Y Challenge 62 - Laura's Sketch - Sabrina

This is a very exciting 2S4Y challenge because the winner of Card of the Week will win a spot on the 2 Sketches 4 You design team and a chance to be a part of the great 2S4Y design team! Now who wouldn't want that?!

This is Laura's sketch for Challenge 62. I thought this would be a great Christmas card. I turned the sketch on its side and cut a window into the front. This was a time consuming process in order to line up all five of the layers exactly. Now that I've done it once, it will be easier, and go more quickly, next time I try this.

Here is my entry for Laura's sketch.

Cream and gold are one of my favorite color combinations, yet I rarely use it in creating my cards. When Christmas card time rolls along, however, I usually manage making some.To get a better idea of the construction of this card, this next photo should help.

As you can see, a portion of the face front is actually part of the inside of the card. All three of the snowflakes were stamped with a woodblock snowflake by Inkadinkado using VersaMark and gold embossing powder. On on the upper left corner inside the card and the other two on scraps and then cut with precision scissors.
The gold scallop-like edge was die-cut with Spellbinders Borderbilities Fleur De Lis and the window cut with Classic Rectangle Large (largest one).

You can't tell from the images that the sentiment is actually popped up with two layers of dimensionals.
Well, I had so much fun working on this challenge and trying to do something a little different. Love the sketch Laura! I have a second post for Stacey's sketch which I'm using to make a birthday card for my 3rd of five, my second daughter.

Upcoming Scrapbookers Paradise Class - October 12th

These are the three projects we will be working on next week. We are making a Christmas Drawer Box that will hold A7 cards made in this class and future Christmas card classes. With the dark blue card we will be learning the Double Emboss technique, and the light blue/silver card we will actually make the background from a plain light gray/blue cardstock. This is a lot of fun!
So to all my Calgary students, there are still 3 spots left in this class at the South Scrapbookers Paradise!

Card Patterns Sketch 84 & Pop of Color Papertey Playhouse Challenges - Sabrina

I've combined the challenges of Card Patterns Sketch 84 with the Papertrey Playhouse Pop of Color challenge which is to create a black & white project with a pop of color.  I chose aqua/turquoise as my pop of color. I ended up making two cards that are practically identical except for the sentiment and a few jewels.
After completing the cards I felt that I should have included more black, but with the deadline fast approaching.....

New Papertrey Playhouse Challenge

The latest Papertrey Playhouse challenge is too perfect! It's called Pop of Color and your creation must be black and white with, you guessed it, a pop of color! Shown below are Deb's inspirations from the PPH blog as well as her own! So awesome!! I love this type of color scheme! I'm entering my card from the Embellish Magazine challenge (even though it has gray in it as well) but I can't wait to make some more!

Cricut Cards

I really need to give Cricut cards more of a chance. I always intend to use terrific images from my cartridges for my papercrafting but usually get distracted with other tools and methods (like stamping!). But it is cards like these that remind me that there is definitely a place for the Cricut in the card-making realm!

Diane of Capadia Designs is a wonder with her Cricut, Design Studio and Gypsy and she has tons of freebies available! One of the things I like about this card is that she used vinyl for the sentiment... Apparently, it's great with detail cuts and the adhesive back saves you some time!

Linda of The Paper Boutique has tons of remarkable work but this card she made using SVG Cuts and Sure Cuts a Lot is too cute to ignore!

Color Cue {8} Challenge Plus Stamping Vacation DT: Have You Tried Challenge

The WPlus9 Design Studio blog's Color Cue {8} challenge has such terrific colors! I originally made the following card for it, as well as for Stamping Vacation's Have You Tried Challenge where one is required to have a border of buttons. Hopefully, this qualifies since it's not quite a full border! ;) However, I did not care for how the stamped background turned out and so I hit the craft desk again (see below).

I made this one instead for the Color Cue {8} challenge and prefer it much more.

The inspiration came from one of the Color Cue {8} challenge participant's blogs! The 2nd card on this post from The Mango Boys and Me inspired strips of embossed paper sewn to the card as well as the "centerpiece" of the card. Thank you, Lynn!

s.e.i. Linky Party: Sabrina

I am so sad that I didn't make the deadline for this challenge/party. I had completed it by Friday evening. I love a lot of s.e.i. products so I really wanted to participate. I couldn't find a deadline date and ended up being quite surprised that the challenge was open only for 3 or 4 days! I found that most challenges are at least a week before the deadline. Since I don't own a working camera, I rely on my daughter's whenever I need to take photos of my projects. I did not have use of it until Sunday evening, and found I'd missed the deadline.:(

I just fell in love with this s.e.i. Moonrise paper when I first saw it about a a month ago and ended up purchasing a 6x6 pad. I created the layered flower first by cutting it out of on of the floral patterned papers so that I would be able to use the correct size of Spellbinders standard circles to cut out of the patterned papers as well as the card front.

I used PTI's  Turning A New Leaf stamp set to heat emboss with gold the leaf pattern, followed by attaching the cut out layered flower. With the flower's gold foil lines, the gold embossing looks great! You can see how the two layers of the flower are raised dimensionally, but I also popped up the flower as well, to make it really stand out of the circle cut out. For the sentiment, I chose PTI's Birthday Bash Sentiments stamping it onto the front of the card with Memento Rich Cocoa. Then with Queen & Co's Sunshine Pearls, I use two different sizes, grouping them in threes, on either side of the sentiment to draw some attention to it, and create a sense of balance.

In this next photo, with the card open, you can better see how the circle cut outs from the layers of the card front work in using the flower on both the outside front and on the inside of the card, as a focal point.

You can also see that I did not place the circle die cut in the center of the card. I did this for two reasons - to create asymmetry, and be sure to have a little writing space on the inside of the card. I forgot to mention that this is a 5 1/2" square card.

I so enjoyed making this card, that I knew I'd be making a couple more cards using up the scraps from creating this one. I also look forward to the next s.e.i. challenge/Linky Party.
