5 Spring Vintage Cards

-For Scrapbook Parade's April 2013 Stay-At-Home Retreat

I'm thinking that while the Scrapbook Parade hosts the Retreat, we that are staying home are going to have some great fun too. Vintage cards are a favorite here in Victoria, so we had to create a Spring Vintage card class. We are using Authentique's Seasons: Spring 6 x 6 pad to create the 5 cards.

Let's view them left to right, shall we.

This first one I used my Cricut and the Heritage cartridge to cut the fence and the lamp post. The flowers are punched using Paper Shapers Daisy and Retro Flower small punches. The envelope flap is border punched using Martha Stewart's Swirling Lace set and has a magnet in it to hold it shut and then exposing more to the sentiment stamped on the flap.

Next the flap is open.

A lot of Liquid Pearls Platinum is used on most of the cards.

Did some paper tearing for this one, and again used the Circut Heritage cartridge to cut out the bird. Die-Namics Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo (the larger of the duo) is used here and the daisy punch again.

Next is a horizontal card. The only one this time.

You'll recognize the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch here. I attached the lace and then added the Liquid Pearls Platinum along it.

Fussing cutting here using the umbrella and banner from the paper. I wove some embroidery floss in the holes of the Die-Namics Oval Open Scallop Doily Duo (the smaller of the duo). I tied two bows to make it fuller since the ribbon is only 3/8".

And for last -

I curled the corners of the paper for this one and continued with more lace, liquid pearls, and daisy punched flowers.

So that's it for these 5 Spring Vintage cards. Hope you enjoyed them.

Happy Crafting everyone!

Triangle Treat Box Tutorial

-Finally!

My apologies for not being able to get this out for the weekend. It turned out that I was a bit too optimistic about being able to squeeze it in. But I have it for you today.

This is the box that a few requests were made for instructions.

You may use designer cardstock, as I did above, or plain cardstock that you can stamp up or leave as is. For the tutorial I'm using just pain cardstock.

Begin with a 6" x 4" piece.

With a pencil and placing the 6" right side up and horizontally on your score board, mark at 3" and rotate to the other side and mark it also at 3".

Now place the 4" side at the top and mark at 2". Rotate to the other 2"side and repeat.

(I used a pencil to show you where you will need to score by connecting the dots)

Once again place the 6" across the top and score at 3" all the way down.

The next four score lines you make will be at an angle. It is for such purposes that I have filled in the 6" score line on my score board. It makes so much easier to score connecting the dots.

Please ignore the holes punched here. I went one step too far before taking the photo ;)

Now you will fold along all of the score lines.

Now you will punch the holes.

With the two flaps overlapping on one side, you will punch a hole about 1/4" from edge.

Repeat on the other side.

This would be the moment that you would fill the treat box.

Then you will feed your ribbon through the holes.

I like to use a 1" or wider ribbon. Here I'm using  a 1 1/2" ribbon. You can used whatever width ribbon you like.

Then you pull the ribbon through to the other side and feed it through the holes there.

At this point you may either tie a bow or just a knot as I did here.

And now, you can embellish the treat box in any way you wish to as I did for the Valentine treat box shown again below.

This treat box is great for Easter, birthday parties, showers, weddings, halloween, and more. Even as place cards for a dinner party. If you use the measurements I used here you can get 6 treat boxes out of one 12 x 12 sheet. You can of course change the size to fit the occasion or use of the box. Have fun with these simple boxes!

Tutorial Requests

-Wow, you really know how to make someone feel good!

I wish to thank everyone for their sweet comments, support and requests. I have had a few requests for measurements and instructions on a couple of my posts. Just to let everyone know I haven't forgotten you and that I've decided to post two separate tutorials. One for a triangular box I made for valentine treats here, and the second for the double sided step card here and here.

I have a very busy week with 5 classes to prep for and teach as well as having to attend a few celebratory activities for my up coming birthday, but I will try to get the triangular box posted for this weekend. The step card tutorial has to wait until after I teach the class on March 2nd.

I look forward to giving you the answers you are wanting with these tutorials. Thank you for your patience. If you have any other tutorial requests, please let me know.

happy crafting everyone!

Barnyard Fun

I completely justified the purchase of barnyard-themed dies some time ago by telling myself I would put them to use for the kiddies. Finally got around to it!

The background board is from a dollar store kiddy set--a steal of a deal!  I just whipped up the barn and animals with my dies and felt. To speckle the rooster, I sprayed him with Studio Calico's Opaque White Mister Huey's mist and dabbed it dry.

Fun to make, but I learned a thing or two about putting a barn together.  ;)

{Supplies--all Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Dies: On the Farm
  • Other Tools: felt--Fine Linen, Vintage Cream, Melon Berry, Harvest Gold, True Black, Pure Poppy, Dark Chocolate; Mister Huey's Opaque White mist (Studio Calico)

March Vintage Layout

-Last one was masculine, this one is feminine!

Another month going by, and time for another Vintage layout class. If you want to see February's Vintage layout, click here.

For this vintage layout we are using the beautiful Authentique Hope (Easter) collection.

You will have to excuse the poor photos. I had trouble with my printer and so since this was for a class I decided to leave them as they are until after the class and replace them with my own photos.

So here are some of the details and close up shots.

The left page...

The right page of the layout...

Close ups and detail shots...

So that's it for all the photos.

I used Liquid Pearls Bisque, Martha Stewart Branch and Branch 2 punches, a 5/8" circle punch, Gold Acrylic Paint Dabber, Cream Acrylic paint, Tim Holtz Tea Dye & Stormy Sky ink pads with Ranger ink blending tool and foams, brown Micron pen, Mini-Mister, Tim Holtz Caged Bird die, a cameo (can't remember where it came from), embroidery floss, lace from Simplicity, and  few odds and ends I've had for a while. As I mentioned, the paper is from Authentique's Hope collection and I used Bazzill Beach & Blue Steel cardstock.

Thank you so much for stopping by to have a look. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in your comment and I'll get back to you.

Happy crafting everyone!

Thank You Kindly

Who didn't fall in love with Maile's Quilled Elegance over at Papertrey Ink? I've already used a sentiment but here is my first crack at one of the images. I wanted to create a watercolor effect and so used watercolor cardstock, Distress Ink, and Glimmer Mist.

Can't see much effect from the Glimmer Mist here. Basically, I stamped the image with Gathered Twigs Tim Holtz Distress Ink, sprayed some Iridescent Gold mist on some plastic, and then started "painting" the inside of the image. The glimmer is more noticeable IRL.

The sentiment was stamped in Pearlescent Chocolate ink and then traced with a Clear Star gel pen for added glitter.

My next attempt with this set will be more colorful!

{Supplies}
  • Cardstock: watercolor (Simon Says Stamp)
  • Stamps: Quilled Elegance (Papertrey Ink)
  • Ink: Gathered Twigs Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Ranger), Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate (Tsukineko)
  • Other Tools: paintbrush, Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels)

Sweet Birthday Wishes

It's a long weekend up here in Canada and I've been taking advantage of the extra time to reacquaint myself with the ol' craft room!

I love the current Case this Sketch sketch and this is what I came up with:

So many stamp sets and so little time! Love the gorgeous fruit in this set from WPlus9.

Thanks for peeking!

{Supplies--all Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Cardstock: Winter Wisteria, Stamper's Select White
  • Stamps: Freshly Picked (WPlus9)
  • Ink: Royal Velvet, Plum Pudding, New Leaf, Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy (Tsukineko)
  • Dies: Freshly Picked (WPlus9)
  • Other Tools: Clear Star gel pen (Sakura), iRock/rhinestones (Imaginisce)

Paper Smooches Thanks

I was inspired by this clean&simple sketch. I thought it was a Paper Smooches sketch for some reason. Regardless, I love the end result!

Using a clear card base, I added some Studio Calico paper that I sewed borders around.

The rhinestone and pearl flourishes are from  Prima (I believe). I added "a little sparkle" for the Scrapbooker's Paradise challenge.

The letters were stamped, cut out, colored with Copics, and then adhered to the inside of the card.

[Edited to add:] This card won over at the Playing in Paradise challenge!

{Supplies}
  • Cardstock: Clear and Vintage Cream (Papertrey Ink)
  • Patterned Paper: (Studio Calico)
  • Stamps: Chit Chat (Paper Smooches)
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko)
  • Other Tools: pearls/rhinestones flourishes (Prima), sewing machine/thread, W5 Copic

Happy Birthday

Popping in with a quick bday card I recently whipped up. I didn't have time to wait for photo-worthy lighting but you get the idea.

I've misted before but this is my first flick experience and I love it!

{Supplies--all Papertrey Ink unless noted}
  • Cardstock: Stamper's Select White, True Black
  • Stamps: Quilled Elegance
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko), Tumbled Glass Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Ranger)

Christmas Club 2013 - March Class

-Getting ready for Christmas 2013. This class includes two clear cards!

These are the four cards we'll be making for the Christmas Club 2013 March class. All the designer paper used for these cards are form Teresa Collins' Christmas Cottage 6 x 6 pad.

For this card I used MFT Rounded Banner, and Poinsettias Die-Namics. For a narrow gold border around the cream rounded banner I went along the outer edge with a gold Gel pen, and added Gold Stickles to the centers of the Poinsettias.

For this next card...

I used MFT Snowflake Doily Die-Namics and added a few circles and stamped onto one of the patterned papers from the pad, cut it out and popped it up. The white dot were added using White Enamel Accents, and of course Christmas Red Stickles for the holy berries.

Now for the first of the two plastic card stock cards.

The inside...

And the last one...

The Winter Rose die is also from MFT Die-Namics. I used 1/8" Scor-Tape on the front around the designer paper that is behind the plastic and 1/4" Scor-Tape around the outer edge of the card and added the glitter.

And the inside...

Well, that's it for this set of cards. Thank you for stopping by to have a look.

Happy Crafting!
