Second s.e.i Inspired Card - Using Scraps
Such gorgeous paper! Well I had these three circles and an extra flower cut out to work with after cutting them out of the front of the previous posted card. What to do with them? Well this is what I came up with.
Before doing anything with the circles, I knew that I would use gold liquid pearls since I felt that would be a nice added touch to the Moroccan styled background paper I had chosen from the same 6 x 6 Moonrise pad ( lol - I'm making more scraps!). The first green circle - the largest of them - I curved the clear stamp sentiment onto my block and stamped it onto the circle. Next, on the yellow circle, I again used PTI's Turning A New Leaf stamp set (a smaller version than used on the previous card) with Versa Magic Tea Leaf ink. It was now time to apply the gold liquid pearls around the edge of the circles. When dry,I then adhered the larger green circledirectly onto another patterned paper which I had mounted onto a matching green scrap from Bazzill. The yellow circle I popped up, overlapping the green. With the brown circle, I had to place one layer of dimensionals on the side that would overlap the yellow, and the other part I place two layers of dimensionals to compensate the height differentials And lastly, again using dimensionals, I attached the cut out flower. Then, as an afterthought, I decided to add gold liquid pearls in each corner of the card.

Stamping Vacation DT: Lots of Paper Challenge and a Hi for Papertrey Playhouse's Mary
I recently joined the new blog Papertrey Playhouse. Those interested were invited to participate in a card swap, which I thought was a terrific idea, and I'm sending a card to Mary, the blog's instigator. I combined this card with Stamping Vacation's Lots of Paper Challenge, which requires paper made with more than one type of leaf. (I am just posting this now since I'm hoping that she will have received this by now and not chance upon it here beforehand!)
This is my first card with Papertrey Ink's new cardstock color, Fine Linen (it's the mat under the patterned paper). I also got to play with one of the Leaf Print dies and Terracotta Tile felt. Incidentally, I found this felt quite difficult to die cut through...

Embellish Challenge: Dana and Stamping Vacation DT: Pick 3 Challenge
I started by stamping the background using the border stamp on Papertrey Ink's Embellishments set. Black on gray, so pretty! Then I inked the edges with Black Soot Tim Holtz Distress Ink and adhered it to a black mat. A strip of True Black grosgrain ribbon followed by a strip of Lemon Tart satin ribbon. I used some thread to tie a "kink" in the ribbon where I was hot-glue gunning the separate bow piece (as demonstrated by Gina K here). I popped up this whole piece over a True Black A2 card base with a sentiment already adhered onto it (a partial Fillable Frames #4). I stamped the die cuts, applied rhinestones, adhered one to the popped up piece and applied the other sort of "wrapping" from under the popped up piece to the front, over the other die cut.

Embellish Background Stamping Color Challenge: Sabrina
I used a midnight black cardstock, which looks like a dark gray, as the card base cut to A2 in size. The lighter gray cardstock mat is stamped with VersaMagic Midnight Black ink using Hero Arts' Old Letter Writing stamp. I've recently purchased the black cardstock that has clear heat embossed stripes already on it. I think this paper is quite striking. Using VersaMark and Hero Arts' Fabulous Flourish I then heat embossed with white embossing powder. This was the first time I had tried heat embossing on this kind of paper, and was initially a little disappointed with the result.Wherever the manufactured clear embossed stripes are, the details of the stamp is lost and the entire stamped flourish is looking striped. After a while the look grew on me and I saw a different kind of texture showing up with the stripes.
I then attached this piece onto the light gray background stamped mat and tied a bright yellow ribbon where the two layers meet. Then I attached it to the card adding the "You Are My Sunshine" sentiment using dimensional pop-dots.
This was a fun and easy card to put together. It was coming up the the layout first, that took time for me this time.But once I knew what I wanted to do, it came together quickly.
With the left overs I made a 2nd card. I prefer the one I posted first for the entry. I think I like the Hero Arts' larger flourish on this layout better than the s.e.i flourish. I've used this s.e.i flourish on previous cards, and loved it. But this time the Hero Arts flourish works better for me.

Play Date Cafe Challenge 48 and Card Patterns Sketch 83 Challenge
Since drafting this post, due to circumstances I was unable to get the photo taken in time to enter the PDCC 48 challenge. I'm very disappointed about that, But I can still enter it for the Card Patterns Sketch 83 challenge.
When I was browsing through the current challenges I came across PDCC48 and was so very drawn to the colors in the inspirational photo.To me it invoked the spirit of Scandinavian simplicity and colors. Since I have a hard time keeping my creations simple, I recently made myself a goal to work on simplicity; not to use bows on every card; keep my layers and pop-ups to a minimum; and so on. These colors and photo reminded me of this goal, so I knew I had to participate in this one.
As I continued to check out other challenges, I came across Card Patterns Sketch 83, which immediately made me think of the PDCC challenge. The simplicity of the design layout was perfect to combine with PDCC48! I used the sketch quite literally with the exception of turning it to it's side.
I'm not 100% happy with my entry, as the silver embossing idea may not have been a great idea when the stamp text (Live, Laugh, Love) is very fine and a negative space in the stamp. Plus some of the fine circle lines did not appear either. Then to top it off the smaller set of circles I placed inside, I did not get it exactly where I wanted it to be. I wanted it to be a little lower and a bit more to the right. It's a little off, but due to time available to me, I opted to not redo it and enter it as it is.
I couldn't resist at least popping up the navy circle, however, and I feel that it will still be mailable though.
Since the initial drafting of this post, I used the scraps from the entry card to make a 2nd card. I'm not sure which one I prefer.

Terri's office themed card is a great design using the most of the blue/gray colors in the collage. And Marune's ingenuity in creating a shaped card by tracing her ink pad was a great example of resourcefulness. The accents on both cards are great! Terri's clips, and Marune's sticks and handcrafted patina colored flowers, are both very creative touches. So you can see my dilemma in choosing a winner. I'm showcasing homemade embellishments with felt. One of the things I love about working with felt is that you end up with more embellishments than you're actually making.
Allow me to demonstrate...
I was die cutting 2 butterflies out of felt, with plans to use paper as a sort of base:
And once I sew everything together...
I end up with all of this:
I adhered the top 2 paper pieces to contrasting papers using my Xyron (just because it makes it easier but you can also use glue or double-sided tape):
So, cutting out 2 felt butterflies and 2 paper butterflies gave me embellishments for 6 cards (you can click on the picture to zoom in)!
