Belated PTI Blog Hop

I'm a week late but I had planned a card for the last PTI blog hop that I didn't get made up in time.

I wasn't very comfortable with the color palette. I went back and forth with what colors were going to go where. Not completely happy with the result but it's rare that I don't post my flubs. ;) Papercrafting is a learning experience for me!

I die cut the Sending You frame out of Harvest Gold cardstock and then stamped the white card base with Background Basics: Woodgrain (Summer Sunrise ink) and Background Basics: Text Style II (Melon Berry ink). I die cut Turning a New Leaf out of Simply Chartreuse cardstock and the rolled flowers out of Bitty Dot Basics patterned paper. The sentiment, from Botanical Silhouettes, was stamped with Berry Sorbet ink.

I tried my hand at white gel pen faux stitched borders. While I'm not that good at it, it did improve the card.

Thanks for peeking!

Requested Tutorial Of Retro Card Class Card Box

I've had some requests to post a tutorial on how I made this card box from a past post (here).

I have made quite a few of these little card boxes over the past three and a half years, like these ones. You'll have to forgive the photo though, as I was only starting out with taking photos for our blog back then.

This box can be adapted to fit a single well embellished card in place of an envelope, or to hold more than one card. It can also be adapted to fit your card size whether its A2s or A7s. The first photo is sized for A2s, 1" thick to hold four well layered cards with bows. The older photo, shows card boxes for A7 cards to fill up with purchased cards so they are only 1/2" thick.
Once you've made a couple of these, logic will enable you to figure out how to make any size changes.

Let's get on with the tutorial, shall we. The measurements in this tutorial are for those of the Retro card class in the first photo - 1" thick for A2 cards.

First cut a piece of cardstock to 8 3/4" x 12 " and place vertically on your score pad.

FYI - The lines drawn from here on are for visual benefit of this tutorial, you do not draw the lines onto your cardstock.

Just a note here. You may notice that the tutorial version of the box is thicker than the photo below. That's because I made this box before the cards and it was just a little on the thin side (3/4" thick), so in class I adjusted the measurements to 1" to allow a little extra space.

In this next photo you can see where to place the ribbon before adding the designer paper, and in what direction it should go. Also you can see the box medallion is added last on the top flap where the ribbon comes out. Or, if you choose, the ribbon can be slid off as in the group box photo from a few years ago.

Hope this is of help to those of you that requested how to make this box. I've also been asked to show how I made the double box I posted yesterday. I will do that for you as soon as that class has been taught. It is a little more complicated and of course uses more cardstock than this one.

Thank you for the requests, and I hope this is of help to you. If you should need further assistance, email me and do what I can to help. It was so nice of you to stop by today, and let me know in the comments if you feel this tutorial has what you need and is of help to you or if I could do something to improve upon it.

Happy crafting everyone!

Gift Set - Scrapbook Parade Class

I just love this little folded double box that I came up with to hold a set of six cards with six matching gift tags! The box reminds me of the school pack packs children had in the 30's and 40's from photos I've seen.

Opening the box, you'll find the box has two sides!

And this is what the box holds.

You'll recognize the 6 x 6 Websters paper. And here they are, card and tag, in their individual sets.

I used Glossy Accents on the bicycles of the card and tag. I wish I had less of the doily showing on this next card, but it's too late now. I did have fun making the flowers though! I also left room for a stamp on this one.

Nothing fancy about any of these cards. I let the papers do the talking, and kept it simple so that they could be more easily mailed than some of the cards I tend to make.

Room for a stamp on this one as well.

I like how the palm tree card turned out.

And finally, the wedding dress card and tag.

I didn't show the backs of the tags, but there are little matching images on the backs as well.

So that's the set! Did I mention how much I love the little box? lol

Thank you for stopping by again today and leaving your comment. Always fun to have visitors. Happy crafting everyone!!

August Monochromatic Cards - Scrapbook Parade Class

Barely getting these out in time for the class! August, second Saturday, is the next Monochromatic card class, and due to holidays and such, our order at the store was delayed much longer than anticipated. So the samples for the class are only now just completed once our order arrived. Thank you faithful Monochromatic Card class followers that signed up even without knowing what we are making!

So, without further ado, here are the cards.

I'll refer to the cards by the name of the Bazzill cardstock. First up is, Brocade. The name inviokes wealth and elegance. I think this colour does, too.

To blog followers this may look familiar. I created a similar card for a blog challenge not too long ago, here, and some of the customers at Scrapbook Parade requested that I include the card in a class when they saw my entry. So I made a few little changes and this is the result. I like this one much better. I couldn't help wondering if I did it a third time would it be better still? lol.

Here are a couple of detail close ups, which may be a little blurry because I got too close with the camera.

Nest in the line up, also make one think of soft luxury, Cashmere.

And more too close shots for closeups.

Next we have Aqua, a gorgeous colour. The one thing that I'm quite proud of with this card, is that I managed to make all those Liquid Pearls close in size! That is quite the undertaking. It must be all that practice I get teaching classes.

Scoring the diamond pattern turned out to be more challengingas I hadn't done that technique in quite a while.

Here are a couple of other detail shots for this card.

So, the last card for the August Monochromatic card series is, Citrus. Another gorgeous colour.

Well that's it for the August Monochromatic Card Classes. I have September's ready too and will post them soon. Below you'll find what I used for each card. Thank you so much for stopping by to have a peek and leave your comments. Till next time! Happy crafting!

WWMD and Moxie Fab

I'm sure most crafters have stamped or die cut (or whatever) scraps lying around the work area with the intention that they will get used up. I've had this bit of houndstooth leftover from this project that I finally incorporated into its own project!

This card had simpler beginnings (if that's possible!) and I couldn't help feeling that something was missing (see right). I actually found myself asking:

What would Maile do?

lol! I love the result!

The colors are Fall-ish but I do love Autumn colors!

I'm entering this into Moxie Fab's Thank You card challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

Jay Gee's Nook and Moxie Fab

I was immediately inspired by one of the stunning pics in Jay Gee's Nook collage inspiration photo [below]. Any guesses as to which one?

The card base, a small 3.75" square, is a shimmery silver color. I stamped the lips with silver ink and then proceeded to arrange rhinestones. The iRock jewels are handy for this type of thing since they aren't adhesive (you melt the glue with the iRock tool). I really wish that I had the iRock iron for this type of thing!

I am also entering this in 1 of Moxie Fab's many Stamp It! challenges, specifically Love cards.

Thanks for peeking!

Christmas In July Series - August - Scrapbook Parade Class

Scrapbook Parade started a "Christmas in July Series" for making Christmas cards. The first class surprised me by filling up so quickly that we had to add a second class! Thank you Scrapbook Parade customers and friends. Now it's time for the second class of the series, with the inspiration being blues and silver - "Blue Christmas".

This first one is a bold combination of including red with the blue and silver. Love those Spellbinder snowflakes! I use them every Christmas.

This next card is bleach stamped, with Icicle Stickles added to the stamped snowflakes after drying.

The three Peace rings are silver embossed with Stickles applied around the inner and outer edges of the rings, and a large bow coming out from the center ring.

To do this step over again, I might try thinly spreading the Stickles over the entire ring rather than the way I did it here.

I was surprised at the colour effect of bleach stamping with this blue shade, as the practice stamping was done on a scrap from the above card with the result of the snowflake being just a little on the yellow side. However, on this blue cardstock it came out with a hint of pink.

The next images are detail photos of the same card.

This next one is my favorite of the four. Using one tree stamp I created a background of forest in blue using the second stamp technique. I lightly cover the trees with Star Dust Stickles. I tore some velum to create snowdrifts and again used Star Dust Stickles on the torn edges to give the snow a glistening look. I then added a pop-up silver embossed Christmas tree colouring in the garland with a blue gel pen and used one of the blue Stickles to fill in the ornaments.

The images below show close up details.

Lastly, is the aqua and silver card.

I tried to keep this one more CAS looking. I think this is my second favorite. I've had that aqua metal trim for a few years now, and am finally using it.

Well, thank you for stopping by to have a peek at this set of Christmas cards. It will be a fun class!
